The details of the contract for the game have been released. Link

For those college football fans hoping more home-and-home nonconference series replace the current prevailing trend of neutral-site blockbusters, a warning: you might not be too happy with the details from the 2017 Chick-Fil-A Kickoff contract signed by Florida State and Alabama.

Those details were made public Friday following a records request from the Tallahassee Democrat, with the most noticeable one a confirmation of the game's previously reported payout, a cool $5 million per team to play at New Atlanta Stadium in Georgia. But the cash isn't the only noteworthy perk included as part of the agreement. From the Democrat:

The Seminoles will also receive access to 100 complimentary hotel rooms the night before the game, free tickets to the College Football Hall of Fame and a $50,000 scholarship as part of the game contract, which was signed by FSU athletic director Stan Wilcox on July 7.

I'm surprised more of the big dogs in college football are not following this business model. The blockbuster one and done neutral site games are big revenue generators for both schools and are great for recruiting. H/h's are revenue neutral in most cases and they don't seem to generate the buzz and excitement that these neutral site kickoff games do. Another ingenious move by Saban and I'd give some credit to Mal Moore also for us helping start this trend.

Oh, but they are. Even the H/H are stepping up. The 2016 opening may be the most outstanding opening weekend/week of CFB ever. Florida State and Ole Miss will play in Orlando on Labor Day night Sept. 5, and the Tennessee-Virginia Tech Battle at Bristol follows on Sept. 10. Below is a list of games slated for Sept. 3, 2016:

– USC vs. Alabama (at AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas)
– Notre Dame at Texas
– UCLA at Texas A&M
– LSU vs. Wisconsin (at Lambeau Field, Green Bay, Wisconsin)
– Georgia vs. North Carolina (at Georgia Dome, Atlanta)
– Clemson at Auburn
– Oklahoma vs. Houston (at NRG Stadium, Houston)
– Missouri at West Virginia
– BYU vs. Arizona (at University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, Ariz.)

You are so right & I think other schools are seeing a side benefit CNS already knew....it really broadens your recruiting footprint.

Great website that lets you go year by year if you want to compare opening weekend.

In 1981 - we started off the year by playing LSU....and UT vs UGA .... but the info is there if you want to find out if that's true.

LSU versus Wisconsin - wow, what a boozy crowd for that one.

It would be my preference not to play Thug University, commonly known as FSU (Free Shoes University) or is it (Felony State University), home of the Criminoles?

If nothing else, the payoff will basically pay Saban's salary for a yr.
Yeah, money rules. Here is what Jimbo Fisher was saying in 2010 about playing Bama:

"People were saying, `Why don’t you open up with Alabama or somebody in that Chick-fil-A Kickoff?' " Fisher said. "I said, `Listen, our big non-conference game, we already have Florida. I don’t need to go pick up Alabama or Auburn or Tennessee or somebody like that.' "

Too bad the ratings and attendance will suffer as that is the same day as the return of UAB football. Jimbo may be distracted by dreaming of how he was almost the Blazers coach.
