I think it's a huge advantage to have a a weak schedule that allows the coaches to hold a few tricks back during the season. If any team wins the SEC undefeated, they are very good or lucky. Probably both.

A team like Ohio State will not need all their tricks and weapons until crunch time. Much harder to prepare for something you've not seen.

and the SOS ranks. It really hurts that we can't play ourselves :)
I believe their Strength of Schedule algorithm needs some serious updating. If you compare our schedule with Ohio State, you'll see Ohio State has 1 team in the top 25, vs our schedule with 5 teams in the top 25 (and again with 1 top 10 vs. 2 top 10 teams). Yet, OSU has a higher overall SOS ranking. It seems they don't have a weighting factor for playing top teams vs. all average teams.

And it looks like if you played the 49th and 51st best teams or the #1 and #99 teams, you'd have the same strength of schedule in their algorithm.

Exactly. Bama's opp rank range is 9-151 and tOSU's is 6-98.

I'd say Alabama will be a favorite by a TD or more in every game except @ Georgia (say -4.5), LSU (say -6) and @ Auburn (say -3.5).

Interestingly enough, it lists the closest game as @ Miss St with a 1 point win.

Phil Steele has them ranked:

4. Bama
10. LSU
14. barn
20. Miss
22. Ark
32. aTm
39. MSU
