Would you vote to legalize Polygamy? If not, why not?

Just curious to see what everyone's stance on this is......

And if you are opposed, please share why......

Yes, I'm opposed to it. How can you be totally committed to more than ONE. I think it's part of your INTEGRITY! Many lack that trait! Trying to be committed to more than one disperses your commitments and you become committed to no one except your OWN SELFISH DESIRES.

Solomon's 700 wives and 300 concubines showed he lacked much of what he said in Proverbs: Wisdom. The wisest man who ever lived wasn't so wise. He depended on his own understanding! Proverbs 3:5-6.

:biggrin: Sign up for Obamacare. You might get some free Viagra. But beware of a you know what lasting more than four hours!:eek2:

I'm not sure how I would vote. I lean toward no. No reason really.
How can a law based upon lies and deception and arrogance stand?

At current replacement rates Japan, most or all of Europe (I assume that is why their leaders originally had liberal immigration policies) and Russia are headed for distinction. I guess at their current rate so is China, but they're starting off so big they have more wiggle room. I think the U.S. is barely above replacement rate.

To OP: not trying to hijack the thread but T-H's post just triggered some thoughts about which everyone is probably not aware.
I think the issue referred to for China is the killing of female infants due to limits put on the number of children (one child policy) by the government coupled with the preference of the people for a male child. This leads to males making up a higher than normal percentage of the population.

Thanks. I thought it might have been the "one child" policy.

Let's first ask a simple question:
If polygamy were ever legalized, would there be a given number of spouses (spice?that any one person could have?). Then, what would stop an entire community, or town, city, etc. from inter-marrying? Can you imagine the confusion? How about the spread of STD's?
Otoh, organizing a family reunion could be really interesting!

Can we just worry about that later? :)

Think about the deductions!! No doubt in my mind a cajillionaire could afford as many wives as he needed to lower his tax!!! ;)

Well here come the AU fans and their farm animals.

ETA - to answer the question I'd say no. One wife has that bad week once a month, if you had two or three then that leaves you only one week. If they were all on the same cycle then basically one false move and you die. :biggrin2:

I'd vote to just make marriage a legal contract that anyone over age 18, or minors with guardian approval, can agree to. One man and ten women? Sure. Two women? Sure. Who cares?
But, honestly, I get confused if one person is polygamous in two different relationships. Let's say I have five wives. Can one of my wives marry someone else, too? If so, what is my relationship to that wife's children by the other dude? Am I still a step-father?
Hey, maybe polygamy is the answer to the single mother problem. Maybe guys would stick around if they could have three more women around - to help care for the baby, to help with bills even, and to, you know, spread the love a little. I don't think it would, but hey, why not give it a shot?

The senator from Decatur said on local TV this PM that they were going to reintroduce the bill to convert marriage into a civil contract this next session...

Even if the guys want to have more than one wife, I don't know of any women who want more than one husband. At least, not at the same time.

No! People will NEVER be satisfied. They'd want to at least match King Solomon's cravings.
