Re: *** 2016 4* RB BJ Emmons Commits to Bama ****
Ok here is the story on RJ Emmons last night as his Freedom team took on my high school Shelby (2 time defending 2A State Champs)
Shelby 40 - Freedom 28 - Emmons had 24 carries for 89 yards against a stout and very quick Shelby defense.
Positives - He had a 107 yd pick-6 and demonstrated great speed down the sideline. He has outstanding burst and acceleration rarely seen on a high school team, and had maybe 3 really good runs (one called back) showing great strength and power. He also kicked off (straight ahead kicker) and put all his kicks in the end zone. Punted too but JK Scott has nothing to worry about.
Observation - Freedom ran an EXTREMELY conservative offense only attempting 3 passes. In the second half they ran 2 tight ends and a diamond backfield handing off to Emmons and number 3 every time between the tackles. Shelby put 10 in the box and they had no where to run.
Negatives - The game had to be stopped twice when he was literally throwing up on the field. Trainers worked with him all night for cramps and they actually took him to the ambulance during the 3rd quarter for dehydration, but he came back.
Attitude - This game was chippy especially in the second half with multiple unsportsmanlike penalties. Emmons was never involved and he was constantly helping Shelby players up after being tackled and patting them on the helmet.
Bottom line IMO - He is dynamite that ran in to more than his team could handle. As mentioned before, Shelby has a Sophomore linebacker who has offers from about all ACC schools and maybe Tennessee who had 17 tackles in the game. Shelby also has a Sophomore running back that ran for over 180 yards.
Other than maybe his conditioning, nothing not to like about Emmons.
