This guy has been a fraud from day one. He used a gimmick to get attention in his campaign and it worked to get him into office. He's become the epitome of a "slimy politician."

i didn't realize until i visited my step-mom this past summer that i went to school and church with the mistress. my brother and i (who were always told we should be more like the "good kids" of which she was one) got a big kick out of this.

Most of this is just sordid details of things we already knew about: Word-for-word conversations between romantically involved couples, using state property to carry on the affair, ceding real state power to the mistress, a fifth-grader's approach to romance -- asking someone else to break up with your mistress for you? Seriously?

There's a major exception. #15 -- diverting federal money from Homeland Security to pay governor's staff.

If true (and it should be pretty easy for a forensic accountant to determine), that's defrauding the federal government. Which could be the excuse the Feds need to get involved in this whole mess. Even if they don't get involved, it brings a whole new level of criminal allegation.

hooterville. class of '89 iirc. lots of cousins, aunts uncles etc in the area. all very nice folks (apparently a little bit of game in the gene pool too ;) ). funny anecdote from my step-mom. apparently after this all started becoming public they had a visiting pastor in the church and he started going off on the governor and his mistress. apparently there was a lot of squirming in the pews as there are a lot of relatives that still attend the church. a couple of folks pulled the guy aside afterwards and gave him the low down and asked him to tone it down a notch.

That's hilarious. Not the actions of the mistress but the unknowing preacher walking into that. I've had that happen to me when guest speaking a time or two.

Gov. Robert Bentley will resign mid-April, Alabama Representative says

The lawmaker who initiated the move to impeach Robert Bentley said he believes Alabama's governor will soon step down.

In an interview with WTVY, Rep. Ed Henry, R-Hartselle, said if the House moves on Articles of Impeachment, Bentley would be suspended pending the outcome of a Senate trial. To avoid impeachment, Henry added, Bentley would likely resign no later than next month.

"From what I'm hearing I would expect by mid-April that the governor either will have resigned or the impeachment committee will be moving at a very rapid pace," Henry said.

If Bentley steps down, Henry added, he expects the Alabama Ethics Commission to pursue criminal charges against the governor for the alleged misuse of state property in connection to his relationship with former adviser Rebekah Caldwell Mason.

The first part of the equation happens today. The Ethics Commission is meeting this morning, and Bentley is one of the topics of discussion. Tweets from al.com's Kyle Whitmire explaining the happenings:

1. This morning the Alabama Ethics Commission is expected to consider allegations against Gov. Robert Bentley.
2. The Commission will likely go into executive session to hear testimony from witnesses and review evidence collected by investigators.
3. The Commission must vote in public, which could be this afternoon.
4. Commission has several options: Refer for prosecution, dismiss, or continue the investigation.
5. If the Commission can refer the case to the Ala. AG's office or the Montgomery Co. DA for prosecution.
6. It's unlikely the Commission will give much detail about the evidence it has collected.
7. However, a referral for prosecution could give ample political cover for lawmakers to move forward with impeachment proceedings.
8. And the Alabama AG's office is already investigating the governor through a special grand jury.
9. The Commission's action is largely a formality, but symbolically and politically an important one.
10. Possible exposure for the guv: misuse of state resources for personal purposes, misuse of campaign funds.

And the Ethics Commission finds probable cause he violated ethics laws.

Ouch, that will sting a bit. But it is hard to deny that he is right here

Several months back, I wrote that Alabama does not deserve better than Robert Bentley as its governor.

We don’t deserve better, I said then and still believe now, because the voters of this state have consistently, without fail, fallen for the pandering stupidity of men like Robert Bentley and Mike Hubbard and Roy Moore. But we never seem to realize it until those greedy, selfish, self-centered, egotistical, racist bigots are exposed by the men and women we should be electing, and/or by the media who you profess to loathe.

That doesn't sting so much - just Josh Moon using this scandal to bloviate his usual self-loathing about how Alabama isn't the progressive panacea he wishes it were. And his point about disenfranchisement is an outright lie, and he knows it.
