Re: Plain Trouble on "Da Plains"

How curious is it that Sir Duke (My Apologies to Mr. Wonder) has, by numerous accounts, assaulted FOUR people a few days ago, and has not even been arrested?

And no one has apparently elected to press charges?

Does anyone here think they could whale on four others in a bar and be allowed to just go home?
I was wondering the same thing.........:cool2:

Surveillance footage shows Duke Williams' bar incident 'not a rampage'

Four days after Dhaquille Williams’ dismissal from Auburn’s football team, details surrounding a Saturday night incident involving the enigmatic wide receiver at a downtown establishment became clearer.

The Opelika-Auburn News on Friday morning was shown raw surveillance footage from Saturday night at SkyBar, a popular establishment in downtown Auburn where Williams reportedly punched four people during a “rampage” on Saturday night. Footage from seven different surveillance cameras inside the bar paints a different picture of the incident than what was first reported by AL.com on Wednesday.

A source speaking with the Opelika-Auburn News with first-hand knowledge of the situation said Williams left the bar earlier in the night after a friend of his was kicked out for wearing sunglasses, which is in violation of the bar’s dress code. Williams attempted to reenter through a side door and was denied entry by employees because that door is not an official entrance.

The embattled receiver was told he could reenter the establishment through one of the two permissible entrances after showing identification at the door.

According to a source familiar with the situation, Williams began “dog-cussing” the bar’s security personnel for not allowing him to enter through the side door before leaving the area. Security personnel at the bar’s entrances were told to not immediately let Williams back in if he returned, but rather to bring him up to the bar’s office to speak with Brett Shackelford, the bar’s general manager.

So, Auburn has clones of Cam, Drew Brees, and Nick Marshall as QBs? Dang, they are so loaded!
Believe they got the Gary Danielson clone too - and are waiting for the Iron Bowl to unveil him. Or am I mistaken and that's the Eric Hipple clone to be shown off?

Isn't JJ's problem not performing well when the lights come on? Imagine how much pressure will be on him now to right the good ship Awebren.

Re: Plain Trouble on "Da Plains"

rest of the article:

"Shortly after 12:20 a.m., Williams, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and white pants, returned to the establishment and was brought into the office at 12:29 a.m., based on the surveillance footage shown to the Opelika-Auburn News.Williams was visually “agitated and upset” and said he was going through personal problems, according to Shackelford, who added that the receiver’s eyes appeared to be bloodshot during the conversation. Williams remained in the office for approximately five minutes and was told that he “cannot get out of line” for the rest of the night or he would be escorted out of the bar.
“My goal was to keep him calm,” Shackelford told the Opelika-Auburn News on Friday morning.

Williams left the office at 12:33 a.m. and returned to the back area of the establishment, where several Auburn teammates were socializing at an area located behind the bar’s main stage.

At approximately 1:45 a.m., an altercation occurred in the bar’s back area when a drink was thrown at another patron, though the initial incident occurs in a surveillance blind spot. Williams tried to get in the middle of the altercation, but did not throw the drink, according to sources.

At 1:49 a.m., security is seen on surveillance footage ushering Williams and wide receiver Tony Stevens away from the incident. Offensive lineman Shon Coleman, who was also in the area, is seen on film apparently trying to calm the situation down to make sure it did not escalate further as Williams and Stevens were being escorted out of the building.

Stevens is seen being ushered out by security at 1:55 a.m., while Williams is escorted out by several security guards at 1:56 a.m. through the bar’s side entrance on Wright Street. Williams appeared to be jawing at security and is seen flailing at one point, hitting an employee with a glancing blow with the back of his hand as he’s being taken to the door.

“He hit one of my guys with a backhand, and he might have thrown one or two punches, but I’ve had 10,000 worse fights in here than him,” said Shackelford, who has been in the business for two decades.

Two other employees were hit by Williams as he was led out of the bar, according to sources, but Shackelford said any hits to bar employees were “nothing major.”
Once outside, Stevens and Coleman are seen on video trying to calm Williams down in the parking lot for several minutes. No other altercation is seen on video, and according to Shackelford, no police officers were ever called to SkyBar on Saturday night.

The Opelika-Auburn News confirmed with Auburn Police Department on Wednesday by Capt. Lorenza Dorsey that Williams was not mentioned on any police report filed with the APD. Dorsey added there are no pending charges against Williams, either.

“It was definitely not a rampage,” Shackelford said.

The incident was Williams’ third strike in the last 10 months with Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn and led to the mercurial Louisiana native’s dismissal from the team on Monday night. Williams, who led Auburn in receiving last season with 45 receptions for 730 yards and five touchdowns, was suspended for the Outback Bowl on Jan. 1 for a violation of team rules. He also served a six-day suspension during fall camp for “discipline issues” before returning and regaining his starting job at receiver.

This week, Malzahn declined to comment on the details of Williams’ latest incident and whether or not other players were involved.

“You give people chances, you give opportunities for people to prove themselves and the bottom line it didn't,” Malzahn said on Tuesday. “It's not easy and it shouldn't be easy for a coach, but you've got to do what's best for your team.”..."

Sounds like Mr Shackelford is fambly and is doing his best to down play the incident. He has a lot at stake.

Re: Plain Trouble on "Da Plains"

My understanding is that Duke had already been told not to go to that bar because of an incident earlier this year - regardless of what he did or didn't do while there, if what I've been told is true, he was violating the rules anyway.

Re: Plain Trouble on "Da Plains"

It sounds like they just physically threw him out and he was struggling with the bouncer. Still, if the coach banned him from the bar, he did not need to be in there.

Anyone know if that bar is a bad place?

Not really. It is a typical college club/hangout. It used to be known as the Blue Room, and it was Neons before then. There is the normal "young, dumb, and drunk" skirmishes, but it isn't what I'd call trouble. AU football players have been hanging out at that spot for decades.

Posted earlier in the thread one of the Montgomery talk show hosts said he was told Duke was told not to go to the bar by Gus and the bar management.

Re: Plain Trouble on "Da Plains"

Are they paying a DC 5.1 million? Really? What a ridiculous gamble!

Maybe that Jumbotron has sold tens of thousands more tickets despite the crappy team. But, oh, for the price of one game a family can upgrade their UHDTV and watch them survive Kentucky.

Re: Plain Trouble on "Da Plains"

You might have thought they possibly learned a lesson about overly high expectations - but after a squeaker at Kentucky, where they give up almost 500 yards, and were outgained by over a 100 - well, some of the deluded cultists are talking about Atlanta again.

They face a re-branded, bye-weeked Arkansas on the road, followed by

The unmitigated and unavoidable misery is about to commence, imo.
