A common promise from sports losers is that “We have to learn from this.” Former Alabama Coach Paul Bryant was given an opportunity to use that platitude after a rare unexpected loss decades ago. Bryant, who would seem to be positively sick after losses, said, “I don’t know of anything good that comes from losing.”

Richard Mullaney traveled to Alabama with the reputation as a possession type receiver. The Oregon State transfer has made the seamless passage from the Pac-12 program to the Southeastern Conference. Saturday evening in the 43-37 loss at Bryant-Deny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, the Thousand Oaks High School (CA) product tied a single game high in receptions and set a new mark with touchdown catches.

Alabama (#12/12, 2-1, 0-1) faces Sun Belt Conference member Louisiana-Monroe (1-1, 0-0) on Saturday, September 26th at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. The contest airs on the SEC Network at 3 PM Central.
