At the beginning of the season I would have put Lashlee near the top of the Next-to-be-HC list, but with Auburn being a dumpster fire right now the only way he leaves is if he's fired along with the rest of the staff.

I'm already hearing on Fox Sports 1 (they cover the PAC-12) that Kevin Sumlin will be contacted about the USC job. Said that he is in their top 3 with Chip Kelly (Eagles HC) and John Harbaugh (Ravens HC).

Something about the USCe opening has the "feel" that it would be attractive to Kirby Smart. Will be sad to see him move on, but this may be the time.

We may be replacing both coordinators for 2016. :(

Sounds like a reasonable wish list.

Has Houston Nutt denied any interest, in the USC job yet?

Either of them...................

He would be wise to hold on for another year and wait for UGA instead of jumping into that black hole at SCar.

Maybe. Consider: SCe no longer a football black hole thanks to HBC, KS familiar with region for recruiting, in-state rival is in another conference [ as with Ga.], North Carolina - a large border state - has no football program worth a hoot . . .

If Kirby ever wants to be a head coach he is going to have to jump at some point. I think he could get the SC job if he wants it but I'm not sure how seriously Ga would consider him without HC experience. They seem to be content with mediocrity anyway so for all the talk of Richt being on the hot seat who knows if/when that job would be open. USC is another school that should have no problem getting a proven coach and I can't see them being interested in Kirby.

If I'm Kirby Smart I'm riding this gig 'til CNS retires. Already over 1 Mil-a-year plus incentives and don't have all the stress and added pressure of HC position.

But that's just me. His thinking and priorities might be different.

I will be pretty disappointed if Bama hires a long time assistant to replace Saban. The next coach needs to have some head coaching experience.

I think that Smart would be crazy to jump into an SEC job as his first HC gig. If he fails he could easily be relegated to a "career DC" pigeon hole. Success as a HC at a smaller school followed by problems at a larger school would not produce that same result.

Wasn't implying he'd be the next HC. Just saying if it were me I'd ride the wave 'til it hit the shore. If he hasn't jumped for a HC position elsewhere at this point I'm sure he's reasonable enough to realize the being Bama HC comes with a whole other set of standards, especially for a first time HC, and wouldn't subject himself to that.

If he's head coaching material then SC is an SEC job he could handle. There aren't many but this is one.

If the defense keeps playing at a high level, Kirby will definitely get an offer or two.

There are two things Bama fans haven't had to fret over since Coach Saban got here: recruiting and replacing assistant coaches. He's the best at both.
