When I started getting text from friends in NOLA for the BCS game in 2012 of LSU players in Harrah's Casino drinking at 3AM, I knew this program was about to decline.

I think "Rivalry" has to do with the longevity of the series and proximity of the schools more than wins and losses.

It isn't wins and losses that make rivalries - it is the passion among the players and fans. How many times in a row has Alabama defeated TN now? And most of the total beat downs. Yet most of you still consider that a strong rivalry, as do they.

Rivalry or not, it is a great match up every year, and a game that both teams will look to as measuring sticks for years to come.

ETA: This writer has an agenda that has nothing to do with the "rivalry".

LSU was a Rival to me because I lived close to the stadium when I was a kid, then we moved back to Alabama... Guess it means more to me than a few others. I describe both teams as hard hitting physical teams, who thrive on pounding the football. Not many teams left who play 'Big Boy Football'... WE HAPPEN TO PLAY MUCH BETTER THAN LSU LATELY... Plus... LSU will never forgive Coach Saban for leaving them, and eventually ending up in Tuscaloosa. ;)
They will never forgive The Bear for whipping Cholly Mac's teams so regularly either.

I think it's rubbish. LSU is the one team in the west where we had better be on top of our game because they play the same brand of physical football we do. There is no smoke and mirrors when we play each other.

Yes, it is a trash job. The writer has an agenda, and it isn't telling the truth.

Normally, I agree with you, BIG, but not this time. We administered a psychic wound in 2011. We have outrecruited them for eight straight years. I believe the writer is acknowledging what most of his readers won't admit. The gap between the two teams is widening.

And yes, LSU is a rival, a big one.

I was going to say the same thing, but you said it better.

Since that game you have played 4 times. You were lucky to win 2 of the 4.

That's what I don't get...Alabama needed two perfectly executed 2-minute drills to avoid being 2-2 against LSU since the BCSCG win. All the narrative stuff is for the wannabe Faulkners. It is funny how the last four have been played out very similarly:

2012 & 2014 (@Baton Rouge): Alabama played well enough in the first half to build a lead, but got shutdown offensively for all but 1-2 minutes of the second half which allowed LSU to claw out a narrow lead late. Alabama executed perfect 2-min drills to win or extend the game late. Steals victory from the grasp of defeat.

2013 & 2015 (@Tuscaloosa): Alabama played a great first half and LSU was throwing all their gasping haymakers early in the game to make the halftime score look closer than it was actually played. Alabama seized the game in the early parts of the second half and absolutely choked out LSU with ball control offense.

I think the big difference in the games have been where they've played. Alabama has performed about the same in the first half in each location but have not sustained offensive production in Baton Rouge in the second half. LSU needs better offense pure and simple. They ought to have handed us similar beatings we gave LSU in Tuscaloosa where the road team's offense eventually sputters in the adverse conditions of a road crowd and quality defense. We've been better offensively every year since 2008. 2010 and 2011 were the two years where we didn't make a play in the fourth quarter to steal the win (2010 was the last time LSU broke 20 points also).

And yet we win. You say lucky, I say we had more guys make the plays when they really matter. Sometimes luck is a factor, but I don't recall luck deciding any of the recent LSU games.

Sorry, I didn't mean to lessen the wins. I was replying to an earlier post. Please don't take it out of context.

My apologies for not reading the entire thread, but if you look at recent history of this rivalry, the last time we lost, it was 9-6, our team was really tight and still should have won the game. Since then, CLM keeps coming back with the same old stuff. They are very good, well coached, don't beat themselves a lot, but 5 times in a row, we find ways to win the game. Miles used to have this reputation of being creative, the riverboat gambler, he was called. I'm not sure why but his play calling seems to get more conservative each time we face them. Could be the failure to get a QB that can read defenses, but it's not the same as the first few years Coach Saban was with us.
