The Deserted Village

By Oliver Goldsmith Sweet Auburn, loveliest village of the plain,

I goes on to describe a formerly beautiful village in England, ruined by the industrial revolution. The rest of the poem convinces one - "what were they thinking?"

Here's the link to the rest:LINK

Methinks they studied poetry in sociology...

I read the whole thing and I am as tired as Auburn will be after the game.

"Thy sports are fled, and all thy charms withdrawn"

Come on now, I don't believe for a minute that this inspired the Auburn folks in any way whatsoever. It's impossible - too many words, not enough pictures.

"The Loveliest Village on the Plains" and both Auburn. It's wordy, but tending to a few cattle can be boring too. Someone with too much time on their hands?
