I don't know everything associated with the case, just saying it is possible he injured himself.
One of the local banks here was robbed several years ago and the teller told me the guy was obviously high. He jumped over a counter that was at least 5 feet tall. The actions of those who are strung out are very unpredictable.

People are crazy, especially when on drugs. I remember a case where a guy committed suicide by trying to swim across a river carrying 150 pounds of steel chain. Why someone would want to steal that much chain is beyond me.
