All of you - think back to nine years ago this evening. I was at work and finishing up my shift. It was a Thursday evening. I cut by the break room TV and caught moments here and there of our one game under Coach Joe Kines. I managed to sneak into the break room to catch the game losing field goal.
How bad was that? Think about it - it was our fifth losing season in ten years. To give you an idea of how bizarre or unusual this was for Alabama........from 1892-1996, we only had a TOTAL of SEVEN losing seasons (and keep in mind three of those were seasons consisting of 5 and 7 games).
1892-1996: 7 losing seasons
1997-2006: 5 losing seasons
But just one week later, the redeemer rode into town on a white horse, er, jet.
I don't say you should focus on how bad that time frame was - but it's been a long time since we felt that helpless. And I for one am eternally grateful for all we've done since then. We literally stand at the precipice of the greatest single decade in the history of a program with glorious decades.
Nine years ago tonight - the last time someone other than Nicholas Lou Saban Jr was the head coach at Alabama.
We've come a long way since then.
Roll Tide.
