On the whole they were great. There may be an isolated nutjob here and there but a lot of us have admired their spunk going back to their awesome humor while they were getting rolled in the Capitol One Bowl five years ago today. They seemed pretty able to take it all in good humor and I personally didn't take offense at the tweets from their defensive players about how they were looking forward to playing a Heisman winner. I thought it pretty classy on the whole.

Their fans reminded me a lot of the Penn State fans with whom we had such a gentleman's rivalry in the 1980s.

Congrats to the Spartans and better luck next year.

Most of the conversations I heard after the game were like.....if you had told me Alabama would beat us 38-0 I would.......

with the exception of one nut job in my area, they were very subdued. Spunky before the game.....go green, go white....but didn't hear that much after the game started.

Good group of fans though on the whole.

We sat around mostly MSU fans not far from their band. I'll give them credit for the spunk and patience to hang around when the game was over at 17-0 early in the 3rd.

However, two MSU fans right behind be drove me crazy with their constantly crud F-bomb barrage, x-rated, sexual comments about refs and their obnoxious capacity to ignore the reality that they were completely outclassed on the field.

Great program all around. I agree with you 100%. I thought it was a form of class not kicking a field goal on 4th down and taking away our shut out also.

Unacceptable - I would've gone to security and had those bums thrown out.

I was at a State game about 5 yrs ago with my then 8 yr old and sat next to a father/son combo (they were probably around 60 and 30) and these two were complete d-bags - dropping f bombs and the like. I ask them politely a number of times to stop and they basically said "make me". Went to security, explained the situation and went back to my seat. They started in again, security witnessed it and came up with the cops and escorted them out (to the cheers of everyone around us).

Best part was my son and I now had room to spread out and since they paid for seatbacks, sat comfortably in their vacated seats

The interesting thing to me is that the Supreme Court decision which made open cursing constitutionally protected speech came up out of Michigan. MI had a statute prohibiting open profanity and obscenities. A mother brought suit against a couple of guys on a canoe trip, relying on the statute and the SCOTUS decided it was a 1st Amendment violation. The difference was that that was in the open and this is was in a stadium to which the public is invited, but it is free to enforce its own rules of attendance...

Well, that exception deserves a comment (btw - let me know when you're going to a game here sometime and I'll be glad to go with ya). My son and I went to the Michigan game in 2012. We boarded a bus we were told was going over to Jerry World. It was FULL of Michigan supporters. They had already been tying one on. One guy came up to me very politely and explained what bus I was on and noted that I was welcome to stay and for that matter so was my son but that as a father he knew crude comments and innuendo were going to be made and he knew I probably didn't want my son (who was 13 at the time) around it. I thanked him and shook his hand as we got off the bus, and he even noted they'd probably get killed.

Fast forward to the game. Two loud-mouthed Alabama fans sat behind me. I'd have rather been forced to sit with Harvey Updyke at an Auburn game to be blunt about it. They were the stereotypical redneck fans that folks think constitutes our fanbase at large. We left early.

At the 2014 Florida game, the guy five folks to my right needed tossed onto Bryant Drive. Absolute jerk. And harrassing Florida fans down in front of us. I had not one complaint about how Gators were in our house and I wanted them to have a positive experience other than the outcome of the game. This guy was a jarhead with steroids and probably broken dreams of being a high school player, living vicariously through Amari Cooper like all normal earthlings not named WMack do (he lives through Kevin Norwood, who cannot be killed by conventional weapons).

Stay classy, Sparty.

Selma, to be honest we had a pretty crude Bama fan sitting near us too. The more he drank the more he cussed, but at least he knew his football and was cheering for the right team.

I will say that most of the MSU fans I saw were classy and, again, I'll give them credit for staying in the game and supporting their team to the very end.

yeah I look at the big picture on a fan base, too. there are jerks in every fan base, but I don't let them form my overall opinion. now Texas Tech fans on the other hand are some of the worst.

Does anyone know if MSU had an epic thread like the last time we played?

I wonder. The previous game was "just a bowl game" while last night's game was much bigger. They may not have been able to conjure up any humor this time around. No telling what they might have come up with regarding the late Henry TD with the power stiff arm.

I think their expectations were far, far higher this time. I've noticed a lack of humor on their boards also. I've also noticed a lot of mean spiritlessness in some of their threads - lotsa low blows and ignorance about where Bama and MSU stand relatively in academics. And, of course, the tooth and sister/wife "jokes." Yep, they're a butthurt bunch this time...

The MSU fans we encountered before, during ,and after the game were pretty cool. They agreed with me about Ohio State fans being some of the worst ever. Best of luck to MSU next year.
