Re: Can Trump Really Win the Presidency?

I saw Michael Moore on Bill Maher. He thinks Trump is going to win. Ouch.
He said later that Trump can win, not will win, and he was saying it to make the express point that millenials and others who are less likely to vote still need to vote. He was just trying to make a point to Dem voters who wanted Bernie.

I saw that. Nothing like giving the green flag, if not the checkered, to Putin. I'm sure there were high-fives all around the Kremlin. This is not the worst to come, though, if he's elected. This is the beginning. It's what happens when you put someone in the highest office with total ignorance about international affairs. Here's another take...

To be fair NATO did start poking the bear first. I honestly think there should remain a line of post totalitarian states separating NATO and Russia. Atleast that way Putin has nothing to justify expanding authoritarian influences westwards anymore.

As far as Trump and Putin. I can honestly see it going both ways. On one hand I do think Trump will probably try to deal with Putin and probably ease tension between Russian interests and NATO expansion, but at the same time I can see Putin also view a compromise as a sign of weakness and try to get a better deal than what he deserves. But in any case, I feel far more comfortable with Trump dealing with Putin than I am with Hillary.

Does that mean he gets my vote??? No!!!

While I'm always leery of Putin, his speech here regarding trump and the NATO expansion has some good points. Aside from bashing American politics of course.

especially in comparison to Samantha Bee who should have been given the Daily Show
I haven't seen her new show. After a while, she got on my nerves a little when she was a correspondent. Steve Carell's wife Nancy was one of my favorites back in the day. I wish Colbert had taken over the Daily Show, but they couldn't compete with The Tonight Show salary-wise.

Re: Can Trump Really Win the Presidency?

In fairness, for eight years, all I heard from conservatives was that the president deserves respect and to do otherwise was tantamount to supporting the evildoers. For the last eight years, those same people have been saying that Obama is a communist, a socialist, a drug addict, an ISIS sympathizer, a Kenyan, a fake Christian, a Muslim, a transcript/birth certificate falsifier...
I hope you are aware that both the late Christopher Hitchens and Bill Maher have declared Obama to be an atheist. (More precisely, Maher has said Obama is a 'drop dead atheist' and Hitchens declared Obama 'is not a real believer').

Neither one of those guys is/was a conservative.

And I reiterate yet again the Birther controversy was begun by supporters of Hillary Clinton.

Some of your other points have varying degrees of merit, yet I don't recall the notion that the PRESIDENT deserves respect - I recall the notion the OFFICE deserves respect even if you don't like the person occupying it. Incidentally, a number of conservatives said that about Bill Clinton as well.

The list goes on and on. And, his kids were secretly adopted because his wife is really a guy. That hypocrisy gate swings both ways.
No, the term 'Clinton hater' may as well have been copyrighted. I even had some leftists who didn't care for Bush acknowledge that with all the piling on that you never heard the media run around talking about 'the Bush haters.'

And as far as the children and the wife really a guy - funnily enough, I actually heard a conservative make that allegation about Bill Clinton in the spring of 1993. Seriously.

Her show is fantastic, far better than Noah, not quite John Oliver

I was not aware of those claims by Maher and Hitchens. But, Obama has attended Christian churches for years and professes to be a Christian. I've hear a thousand people in my life claim that this or that person wasn't a "real Christian". Apparently according to whatever standards they've chosen to apply. I certainly haven't seen any evidence that he's a Muslim. Although I'm sure somebody's going to tell me he's a "sleeper Muslim" or something.

And I reiterate yet again the Birther controversy was begun by supporters of Hillary Clinton.
I'll take your word for that. But, it doesn't really have anything to do my point. Clinton hasn't been keeping the claim going for the last eight years. Conservatives of various stripes have, including the GOP nominee.

I don't doubt it. I don't recall any of those claims, but I heard a million cracks about Hillary being a lesbian and how ugly she and Chelsea were. Rush Limbaugh actually called Chelsea, who was 12 or so years old at the time, the White House Dog a few times. Some of my friends repeated that joke a lot. I was slightly right of center back then and thought it was classless and told them so. She was a kid for God's sake.

My memory isn't in your league, but I honestly don't remember wives and children of presidents being ridiculed very much at all before the Clinton administration. Of or by either party. It seems like things took a nasty turn in that regard around that time. It seems to have gotten progressively worse.
