Special teams and TE coach and play during the playoffs from punting, FG's, TD'S from both Punt and KO return, containment, and TE play from OJ was spectacular. The man that replaced coach Saban at Michigan State has been a nice familiar motivating face to see on the the sideline during our run. We are fortunate to have coaches as loyal and efficient as Bobby Williams and his department had a lot to do with our success in this NC. He has had rough patches, but this was his best imo.

Thanks coach!

I have bashed him through the years, but his special teams won it this time, so I have to give him credit. And his TE played one heck of a game!

Of course early in the game he was getting his usual game day butt chewing from Coach......

It happens so much and it happens on TV a lot it seems.....and it is comical....Coach just goes off on Bobby, and Bobby just shrugs his shoulders and looks off into space.....

They have known each other so long, I am sure he is used to it. LOL

Coach Williams deserves it. A lot of fans were calling for his head earlier in the season.
He had a really good run from Auburn on, the best that I can remember. It's nice seeing his familiar face on the sideline, always contained and in control. I am not a coach, but Special Teams would be a job I would stay clear of, so my hats off to him.

I am so glad Coach Saban is running the program instead of the fans, or Coach Bobby Williams may not have been able to get those special teams straight. They really did get the job done this year.

And the thing about Coach Williams is when you see him on the sideline he doesn't seem to take the stuff personal when it appears Coach Saban is chewing him out about something. He just looks calm, takes things in, then goes on about his business. I like seeing the emotions on the people's faces on the sideline when something either goes great or bad. It shows you a lot about people. If he and Coach Saban didn't have a good working relationship, I don't think they would be together this long.

Agree, when coach Saban is not chewing you, then you have a problem. And it takes someone of high character and self worth to not take it personally.

As with most teams, CBW is mostly a coordinator, which other assistants having the responsibility for the various phases. Like HCs and QBs, ST coaches get too much credit when things go right and too much blame when things go wrong... ;)

It would be the last spot I would want to coach because you are at the mercy of specialist and the chaos.

So Bobby is a coordinator who has a staff under him the same as with the OC and DC? I know it's not at the same level, but it is seems to be a lot to be accountable for, in addition to being the TE's coach. Seems like his job is a notch below the OC and DC, but above being a position or unit coach?

Edit: I am assuming he does not recruit out kicker's nor trains them, just that around them. So it is hard to fault him when are missing FG's.

Lord he deserves kudos after all the hammering he has gotten (myself included). ST's basically won the championship this year. Never thought I would say that sentence

I was one of those calling for his head earlier this season. But you've gotta admit that special teams has not been our strong suit for most years since Saban's arrival. Bobby got it right the last two games of the year, and that was key to winning the championship. Kudos to Bobby!

When a guy has been here for this many championships, you start to realize that he plays a valuable role. That's all there is to it.

That's not really true at all, and I kept posting stats earlier in the season to show that is a misconception. What really happened was Alabama had two place kickers struggle at times, which gave the mistaken impression that special teams as a whole were a problem. Alabama ranked very high in many special teams categories, and even in the years that place kicking struggled, Alabama was one of the best in the country at net punting. But no one wants to talk about stuff like net punting, so there was a lot of fixation on the struggles of two place kickers.
