this pre season he claims they have the best Defensive line haul in the country after NSD.
Also claimed the same thing about their WR class. IMO, he is running a risk by saying such things repeatedly. When you evaluations of people consistently are incorrect, people stop listening to what you say. As a head coach at an SEC school, you can't afford that perception.

I also saw where he said his D line group was the best class ever. It seems to me Gus would have learned his lesson after anointing JJ with the Heisman , before the season started. Maybe he should learn to under promise and over perform.
I am just more thankful everyday Coach Nick Saban is running our program! RTR!

I think Malzahn's positive attitude really helped that 2013 unit which was probably a bit more talented than that 0-8 showing in the SEC in 2012. They needed a culture change and to be rebuilt a bit in terms of self confidence. I don't think it has paid off over the long run despite having great success right off the bat.

difference between Gus and our coach is good ole Gus doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut.
last year he proclaimed Muschamp as the best DC in the country.
last year he hyped Jeremy Johnson up as the Heisman favorite.

this pre season he claims they have the best Defensive line haul in the country after NSD.

he continues to shout loud from the mountain top only to fall flat on his face.

CNS has all the accolades bestowed upon him along with all the National and SEC Championships for his hard work. he talks and everyone listens. when Gus talks, all I hear is blah, blah, blah !!!!
"We could have scored 70."

Its like this:

If you have to tell people that you are in charge, you are probably not in charge.

Someone care to explain Gus' thinking on how many players at a particular position to sign in each class?

20141221262540
20151311544431
20162014171410

The 2013 class really only had 2 RBs because Jonathan "Rudy" Ford was listed as a RB by Rivals.

The number of JUCOs signed in each class:

2013 - 5
2014 - 5
2015 - 3
2016 - 2

Of the 76 players signed in his first three classes, he's had 7 transfer and 3 that "left" the team. Two members of the 2013 class failed to qualify (Jason Smith went to JUCO and signed again in 2015).

We signed 2 or 3 JUCOs this year right? I don't fault the practice, it is a good way to cover down on early departures with immediate depth chart participants.

15 JUCOs over 4 years is a sign that they're having a lot of trouble at filling positions out of high school more so than early departures to the NFL. Auburn hasn't recruited a successful QB straight out of high school since Brandon Cox...and that is quickly heading towards an entire decade, right? DL and OL numbers and development cycles get weird, so I understand needing to pick out a few JUCO guys to round out those groups. Consistently needing to go the JUCO route for QB is very concerning and a risky gamble. They've been really fortunate with Marshall and Newton...mixed bag with Todd (bad in 2008, alright in 2009).

Thanks. They better hope some of those DL can play OL. They are razor thin at OL.

its been said and proven correct thus far that offensive genius Gus can not develop QBs from HS. he has to recruit JUCO QBs to have success ( Newton, Marshall). he's hoping his JUCO can be plug in and play immediately without any proper coaching and development.
