I've known Russell Harris by name for over 20 years and actually known him for ten (his Mother was my Chem Supervisor at Little Rock AFB). In a world with all the bad stories about some cops acting like they're God and others getting slammed for a decision that had to be made immediately, Russell (a Major in the Army National Guard as well who did a year in Iraq) and another LEO do exactly what LEOs should. Thanks buddy glad to know you.

Quick thinking by two police officers saved a 5-year-old boy from a raging fire Thursday afternoon.

Around 3:45 p.m., a house fire was reported in the 5600 block of Gillum Drive in Plano. Police officers Russell Harris and Mark Jones were first on scene.

When they arrived, a frantic homeowner told them that her 5-year-old son was trapped inside. The mother had tried go back in, but could not get past the flames, she told police.

Harris and Jones ran around back and saw the boy waving his arms out a second-story window. They grabbed a ladder in the yard and climbed up to rescue him. Jones smashed a window and grabbed the boy from the smoke-filled room, according to fire officials.

“The officers made some pretty quick decisions and probably made the difference in saving his life,” said Plano Fire-Rescue Capt. Jack Sides.
