This machete violence is out of hand. We need to take action now to keep machetes out of the hands of those who would do us harm. This calls for executive, unilateral action.

In times like this, emotions can run high. I think it's important to slow down and respond in a rational, considered manner, rather than to have some knee-jerk reaction driven by panic.
It's important to recognize that not all machetes are the same. Care should be taken to distinguish between assault machetes and sport/utilitarian machetes. No peaceful, law-abiding citizen has any business with an assault machete, characteristics of which include bright coloration, menacing-looking holes in their blades, pointy little hook-shaped thingies, and excessive cordage.
Sport and utilitarian machetes, on the other hand, while constitutionally protected, should nonetheless be registered and licensed only to prospective owners who've undergone a thorough background check.
