some similarities for sure, CJM a bit bigger, Evans a little faster. Thing with CJM is that even though he wasn't technically an every down player till he was a SR, he did play a majority of the snaps in both Soph and JR years since he was the starter in nickel and we play that more than anything else. CJM also played his entire HS career as a standup LB, where Evans was a DE in HS. CJM was the best coverage LB we've had. Evans has almost zero experience dropping back. Net - I think a stand up position is Evans best chance at the next level and he's got all the physical tools to excel at it, but he's got a really steep learning curve to get there so it will be interesting to watch how that evolves over the course of spring and fall camp.
I thought the same thing also but Mosley is listed at 6'2 235 lbs on the Ravens website and Evans is listed at 6'3 225 lbs on his Alabama bio page..

Evans will likely only man the middle in scenarios where we're facing a team with a good QB runner in pure passing downs. He was the only guy on the team who could close out on Watson from a spy in the national title game.

According to this, Evans measured 6'3, 218 at the 2013 Opening. Would believe the main difference here would be fans expecting CJ to play ILB and Rashaan to play OLB.
That is scheme dependant though. He could be an olb in a 4-3 scheme, but in a 3-4 the olbs we have had have been 240 minimum. At 225 evans would have a really hard time holding up at the point of attack to set the edge against OTs and TEs. He's either got to add some serious weight or he won't be able to be a 3 down player at olb. If he's maxed out his body type his best bet to play more is as a will.

Little surprised BB's 40 was 4.8. He looks faster than that in HS videos.
Not to mention that speed of high school players is possibly a little slower.
4.8 looks a little faster when the other guys are in the 5s.
Some guys play faster than they do at timed speed test.
I call it added incentive to stay out of the reach of 'The Big Uglies'. ;)
If Blake gets the nod, I'm pretty sure he will run well behind our blocking.
I have been impressed by Blake's throwing on the run, more so than just dropping back to pass.
Last year he didn't look like he had an especially fast release.

mr. evans is the key player type for the dual qb. he has the quickness, speed, strength to cover the outside run pass game, and coverage on the edge. we have not proven we have another one yet of his caliber to do this. he proved his worth in the Clemson game against the best team we had played all year. hopefully, he will get more playing time this year.

I think he could have a very bright future playing that type of role for us as a will, which is why it'll be interesting to watch how this evolves over the next few weeks of spring camp. As you mentioned, he's got more than enough speed and he's got the strength. The question really comes down to if he came make the adjustment to playing off the line and learn all the pass coverage techniques he's not had to learn up till now. A package that had him at will, with Anderson and Williams as the rush ends and either Foster or SDH at Mike would be very, very effective against the spread, HUNH teams with mobile Qbs.

That's Barnett now? Pencil

Bateman runs the 40 as fast as Blake Sims, in the 4.5's very good
Barnett ran a 4.8
Bo ran a 4.6 which at 6-2 230 - hope he has downfield speed like Henry who ran 4.5's at the combine
Harris ran at 5-11 214 ran a 4.4 - very good
Foster and Ridley both at 4.3 - Ridely is older, but he has two speeds, and the 2nd one with the high step is elite.
OJ at 6-6 242 runs a 4.6!
The OL's running clean 5.0's!
Daron Payne at 6-2 320 runs a 4.9?
RUEBEN at 6-2 240 runs a 4.6! Beast 545 squat
Outside LB's all in the 4.6 range
CB's 4.3'S AND 4'4's

Don't think we will have a problem with speed with year!

Moon...4.8 isn't slow at all. As a matter of fact it's pretty darn fast. If Tony Brown runs a 4.34 and Blake runs a 4.8 then Tony would beat him by less than a half second or about two-three yards in the 40, and you're talking about a DB who's faster than most NFL corners.

Where are you getting this info? Not being critical, just wondering. He hasn't played and wasn't a prominent part of anything the public got to see last year.

Blake has posted some Instagram videos. He's been working this week with George Whitfield in Cali.

Well, I didn't say it was slow:wink:, but I thought his 40 time was a tad faster.

That was prior to Saban adjusting to the spread offenses.

we don't play the 3-4 alignment against spread teams. We play a 4-2 nickel most the time against the spread. In that alignment the jack mostly functions as a DE (75% of the time his hand is in the dirt), and all our Jacks except Anders (and he came out in nickel, and upshaw subbed in) have been 250 or more, even against the spread. Upshaw - 265; Hubbard - 255; Dickson - 265; Devall - 252; Anderson is next in line and he's 249. Williams will get reps also, but the reason he's never been a 3 down rotation guy and is mostly used in the rabbit package is that he's only 230ish. Same will happen with Evans if he only plays outside and doesn't show he can play off the line and in pass coverage as well as a speed rusher.
