The Crimson Tide begins Southeastern Conference play this weekend, traveling to Baton Rouge to take on the seventh-ranked LSU Tigers. The teams are scheduled for a three-game series, with Friday's opener beginning at 7 p.m. CT. Saturday's second game is set for a 6:30 p.m. CT start with Sunday's finale slotted for a 1 p.m. CT first pitch. Friday's contest will air live on SEC Network as part of the channel's Bases Loaded special, with the channel featuring every baseball game in the SEC. The final two games of the series can be seen on SECN+.

LEADING OFF

Alabama and LSU will square off for the 364th time on Friday in a series that dates back to 1906. The Crimson Tide owns the all-time advantage, 199-161-3, but the Tigers lead in Baton Rouge, 79-83-3. In the most recent series, LSU swept UA in Hoover, playing in a 16-inning game on Friday and a 13-inning game on Sunday and totaling 38.0 innings of baseball for the weekend, the most frames played across a three-game series in Alabama history.

The Tigers welcome the Tide to Baton Rouge ranked in the top-10 in every major poll. LSU sits at No. 7 in both the D1Baseball.com and Baseball America polls, while the Tigers rank eighth in the USA Today Coaches and ninth in the NCBWA poll. College Baseball News has the Tigers ranked 10th overall. LSU enters the weekend winning nine of their last 10 games, including a 2-1 series victory over Ball State last weekend before taking down New Orleans, 9-4, on Wednesday evening.

The Crimson Tide will use a trio of right-handers this weekend, starting first with junior Geoffrey Bramblett on Friday. Sophomore Jake Walters will follow on Saturday, and Nick Eicholtz will make his return to the rotation on Sunday after sitting two weekends out with an arm injury.

The Tigers will begin the series with sophomore right-hander Alex Lange on the hill for Friday's opener. LSU will call on a pair of left-handers in the final two games, first with junior Jared Poche' on Saturday, and then on Sunday senior John Valek III will toe the rubber for the home team.

Alabama and LSU will meet for the 364th time when the two teams meet to open SEC play.

The Crimson Tide owns the all-time advantage, 199-161-3, but the Tigers hold a lead of 83-79-3 in games played in Baton Rouge. The Tide is 2-8 in its last 10 games in Baton Rouge and has not won a series on the Bayou since 1996 when UA won the weekend's final two games after falling in the opener.

Alabama last won a series against LSU in 2011, when the Tide took the final two games of a three-game weekend series in Tuscaloosa.

The series began with a three-game series in Baton Rouge in 1906, as the Tigers swept the Crimson Tide. Alabama was shut out 2-0 in game one and 1-0 in game two. The series finale finished 3-2 in favor of the Tigers.

ON DECK

Following the weekend series in Baton Rouge, Alabama will close out its six-game roadtrip with a single midweek contest on Tuesday against the UAB Blazers inside Regions Field in Birmingham, home to the Double-A Birmingham Barons. The weekend series will feature the Tennessee Volunteers at Sewell-Thomas Stadium, the first conference action at the new "Joe".
