From 1991-2015 there were 28 national champions (3 were shared = 1991, 1997, 2003)

Alabama 5
Florida 3
Florida St 3
Nebraska 3
LSU 2
Ohio St 2
Miami 2
USC 2
Washington 1
Texas 1
Oklahoma 1
Michigan 1
Tennessee 1
Auburn 1
Penn St 0
Notre Dame 0

The record of Miami (1992), Texas (2009), LSU (2011), Notre Dame (2012), and Clemson (2015) coming into the National Title game vs Alabama was a collective 63-0. The collective record of those same schools in the National Title games vs Alabama was 0-5. Yes, we beat 5 undefeated teams in our 5 National Championship seasons. Rather impressive I would say.

I feel like I am in first grade and the question is "which of these doesn't belong with the others?"

Not long ago, at least to me, us Bama fans were "living in the past", even when courting coach Saban........well you know what to do with that media.
4 OUT OF 7. Beat that!

Crazy thing is you could go back another 27 years and Bama could add 5 more or 31 years and it would be 6 more.

Basically we've averaged 1 NC every 5 years over the last 55 years.

That's crazy good!!!:BigA:

I agree, but even Alabama goes through their "lost in the wilderness" years when between good coaches. You have been blessed with some amazing head coaches, to be sure. Enjoy this. It truly is a great time to be an Alabama fan.

For a fan who went through the 80's and then 00's, I can tell you I know this. Only born in 1970 so I don't remember the 60's run, but I was aware of how good Bama was in the 70's. Admit my boyhood fandom believed we'd always be good because "we are Bama" but I learned as I got older that the Jersey doesn't win the games. I think us older ones appreciate what we are currently witnessing!

It's interesting looking at how many of those coaches were either fired or forced into "retirement".

If you add 1990 and make it 25 seasons adding Colorado and Georgia Tech in the split it would be impressive also.

It sure is, B1G. I feel really fortunate to have been able to live through and clearly recollect the golden years of modern Alabama football ( 1958-Present ), with only a relative few "down" years sprinkled in. One of the few benefits of being an "Old Guy" !

Never really thought about the fact that each of Alabama's opponents in the NC games have been undefeated.

And Alabama was the favorite in each except for Miami.

I think you're referring to most of the coaches on the list who only have 1 NC. Several of those coaches - Mack Brown, Gene Chizik, Jimbo Fisher - won a NC solely based on having a transcendent talent at the QB position in Vince Young, Cam Newton and Jameis Winston. Larry Coker inherited one of the most talented rosters of all time. Jim Tressel was cheating. Bob Stoops won his (IIRC) in his 2nd year with someone the previous coach's players. Yea, so about half of that list is just a flash in the pan. Some truly all time greats though with Saban, Meyer, Osborne, Bowden, Stallings, Spurrier etc..

Jim Tressel was cheating.
To be clear, that OSU team did nothing to gain a competitive advantage on the field. Jim Tressel was an idiot who should have just let his players take their lumps for selling their gold pants. It would have meant a few games missed for each, but we would have lost nothing else. Tressel's lies in his weak attempt at a cover-up is what led to the suspensions and his removal from our program.

In other words, the championship won was as legit as any other won during the BCS era.
