Kirby Smart won’t have to do as much of a juggling act with his schedule for the next few months after the NCAA on Friday put an end to satellite camps.
The SEC and ACC were against the likes of Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh and Ohio State’s Urban Meyer serving as guest coaches in their neck of the woods.
Smart, Georgia’s first-year coach, and other SEC coaches were ready to jump in if the satellite camps were allowed to continue.
“We were gung-ho, we were going to do what we had to do,” Smart said. “We were going to go do some satellite camps, but to be honest with you it’s probably a sigh of relief as far as the stress of having to go out and control the controllable.”
Georgia’s staff had discussed possible plans but now won’t need to have to figure out how to manage camps on campus as well as all the details that would come with settting up camps in other areas.
“It was hard to say who’s going to go, what coaches go, who stays, do you do it during your camp?” Smart said. “You’ve got camps going on here, you’ve got camps going on there.
