Tide starter Geoffrey Bramblett suffered the loss despite allowing only one unearned run

April 15, 2016

TUSCALOOSA, AL -
A pitcher's duel between Alabama and eighth-ranked Ole Miss fell in favor of the Rebels, 4-0, on Friday evening at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The Crimson Tide was shut out for the second time this season and move to 20-14 overall and 6-7 in conference play.

"The last two Fridays Geoffrey (Bramblett) has certainly pitched well enough to win," said Alabama head coach Mitch Gaspard. "He gave us the long start and pitched extremely well, and I thought it was one of his better outings. He's done a hell of a job for us on Fridays, giving us an opportunity to win each time out."

Alabama starter Geoffrey Bramblett (6-2) spun another quality start on Friday, working 7.0 innings and allowing one unearned run on two hits and three walks with eight punchouts. It was his sixth quality start of the season and fourth against SEC competition.

Bramblett was matched by a solid outing from Ole Miss starter Brady Bramlett (6-2), who worked 6.0 innings of scoreless baseball, allowing three hits and three walks with six strikeouts for the win.

(Brady) Bramlett was equally as good tonight," Gaspard said of the Rebel starter. "He did a really nice job. We had two opportunities and on Friday night, and that's about what you get. Those two opportunities, we just weren't able to take advantage of them."

Alabama had the bases loaded with one down in the sixth, and had two on in the seventh with two down but was unable to capitalize on either opportunity.

The two teams went scoreless through the first two innings before Ole Miss scored the game's first run in the top of the third. With one down, the Rebels sent a grounder to the shortstop that caught the man at second in a rundown. The Crimson Tide retired the runner 5-4-6-5, but the batter headed towards second and an errant throw into right field allowed the hitter to come around and cross, making it a 1-0 game.

Ole Miss added three runs on three hits in the top of the ninth inning to extend the lead to 4-0. The Rebels capitalized on a leadoff double with a fielder's choice RBI one out later, as the man at the plate evaded the tag to score one. Ole Miss then followed with a double two put two runners in scoring position before an unassisted putout at first brought one more across. A single to right scored the inning's final run for the Rebels and put the game out of reach.

Chandler Avant led the Crimson Tide in hitting, going 2-for-4 with a double to record his fourth straight multi-hit game at home. Also recording hits were Chance Vincent and Georgie Salem, with one apiece. Salem's single extended his hitting streak to six games.

The Crimson Tide and Rebels return to the field tomorrow evening for a 5 p.m. CT matchup. Alabama will call on sophomore right-hander Jake Walters, while Ole Miss will counter with sophomore lefty David Parkinson. The game will air live on SECN+ with Mick Gillispie and Lance Cormier on the call.
