April 25, 2016

TUSCALOOSA, AL -
The Crimson Tide travels to Birmingham on Tuesday to take on Samford, closing out the Tide's current streak of four games away from home. The Crimson Tide and Bulldogs are scheduled for a 6 p.m. CT start at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

LEADING OFF

The Bulldogs welcome Alabama to Birmingham following a weekend series win over Kansas, 2-1. Prior to the pair of victories over the Jayhawks, Samford split with Alabama A&M in a doubleheader last Tuesday.

Alabama and Samford will meet for the 102nd time in a series that dates back to 1894, when Samford was still known as Howard College. The Crimson Tide owns the all-time advantage in the series, 89-12, including a 17-5 mark in Birmingham. The two teams met twice last season, with the Tide winning both games of the home-and-home to extend its winning streak to nine straight games over the Bulldogs.

The Crimson Tide will call on freshman right-hander Brock Love for the Tuesday start. Love will be making his third start of the season and is 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA (2 ER/8.0 IP) in his first two starts. He has allowed six total hits in the starting role and has struck out 13 compared to only two walks. Overall, Love is 0-0 with a 3.27 ERA (8 ER/22.0 IP), has allowed 19 hits and seven walks while striking out 25.

The Bulldogs' starter is still to be announced.

Alabama and Samford will meet for the 102nd time when the two teams square off on Tuesday evening. The series dates back to 1894, when Samford was still referred to as Howard College.

Overall, the Crimson Tide hold an 89-12 advantage over the Bulldogs, including a 17-5 mark in Birmingham.

Alabama is currently riding a nine-game winning streak over Samford, dating back to April 19, 2011. Over that time, UA is a perfect 5-0 in Birmingham and is outscoring SU, 48-22, in those road contests.

The two teams met for a pair of games last season, with the Tide winning 8-6 in Hoover on March 17, before a 12-1 win at Samford on April 7.

Game one marked Jake Walters' first career start, with the then-freshman earning the win across 5.0 scoreless innings that included nine strikeouts.

The matchup in Birmingham saw the Crimson Tide collect a season-high tying 18 hits as eight of the nine starters recorded at least one knock. The offense was highlighted by Georgie Salem, with the center fielder finishing 2-for-4 with two solo home runs, two RBI and a pair of runs scored.

GASPARD VS. NON-CONFERENCE OPPONENTS

Under head coach Mitch Gaspard's tutelage, Alabama teams are 117-59 (.665) overall in regular season, non-conference matchups across his seven seasons leading the Tide.

The Crimson Tide has had a winning record against non-conference foes in every year except 2012 and has won 18 or more games in all five of those seasons, with a high of 19 in 2010 and 2014.

Alabama is 15-8 against non-conference opponents this season, including a 2-1 series win over then No. 27 Maryland, a sweep of North Dakota and a 3-1 weekend at the USA-Baseball Irish Classic in Cary, N.C.
