Georgia’s leading tackler from 2015 is signing as an undrafted free agent.
Inside linebacker Jake Ganus confirmed via text Saturday night that he has an agreement with Minnesota.
He is one of eight known former Bulldogs signing after not being selected in the three-day NFL draft.
Defensive linemen Chris Mayes and Josh Dawson are signing with Atlanta as undrafted free agents. Dawson tweeted out the news and Mayes said by phone he picked the Falcons among about 15 offers.
“It’s close to home," said Mayes, from Griffin, Ga., who had 41 tackles and started 11 games as a senior. "It’s an opportunity to play as soon as possible.”
Dawson tweeted he will sign with Atlanta as an undrafted free agent. "Forever grateful. #HOMETEAM #RISEUP." The Falcons last drafted a Georgia player in 2011 when it took linebacker Akeem Dent.
Kicker Marshall Morgan is signing with Buffalo, according to the Florida native. He was 64 of 84 on field goals at Georgia including 18 of 25 as a senior. He is third all-time at Georgia and in the SEC in scoring with 407 points .
Nathan Theus, a long snapper for four seasons at Georgia, has a free agent deal with Denver, according to his father. Nathan's brother, John, was a fifth-round pick by San Francisco as an offensive tackle.
Defensive lineman Sterling Bailey tweeted he will be joining Indianapolis. "I'm excited for the next chapter of my life!" Bailey, from Gainesville, had 108 tackles in his college career and started 19 games.
Fullback Quayvon Hicks tweeted simply: "Titans baby." That indicates he is signing with Tennessee. Hicks missed the bowl game after sustaining a knee injury and didn't work out at the combine or at Georgia's Pro Day. He rushed for 166 yards and three touchdowns and had 12 catches for 132 yards at Georgia where much of his work was done blocking out of the backfield.
Tight end Jay Rome is signing with Pittsburgh to a deal that includes a $2,000 signing bonus, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chroncile. Rome tweeted out a picture of the Steelers helmet. The Valdosta product had 38 catches for 398 yards and three touchdowns in his career.
Ganus led the Bulldogs in tackles with 102 and had two interceptions in his one Bulldog season after transferring from UAB when that program shut down before his last college season.
Ganus, from Chelsea, Ala., was named Georgia’s defensive MVP and got a late invite to the Senior Bowl but was snubbed for the NFL combine. Dawson, from Tucker High, had 38 career tackles in a careeer in which he started five games.
