For Florida people - an Auburn tag? Are you kidding me?

There are Ole Miss and Mississippi State tags offered by the Motor Vehicle Division in Alabama. It is mostly a matter of pre-commitment for the design. We'd probably have a State of Alabama Notre Dame tag if enough people signed up for it and it is a surprisingly low number to "make" the pre-commitment for a generic specialty (just a white background and logo).

This stuff is all about politics anyway. It makes more sense to have no personalized tags and no specialty designs but the people like it so it is a form of political currency for the state capitol.

Some years ago (before Georgia had UA plates--like mine!), someone in the GA General Assembly wanted to pass a law that would impose a reciprocity rule that would prevent there being a UA or UF plate until Alabama and Florida allowed UGA plates. (At the time, neither state allowed plates for out-of-state schools.) One of the leaders in the state Senate killed the idea even though he was a UGA grad, saying why shouldn't they give his constituents who are UA and UF fans/grads the chance to have plates and not worry so much about people in Alabama or Florida who had their own legislators. Actually the real fuss was over the UF plate, the idea of which horrified some UGA fans. We would have been collateral damage. Fortunately, a rare burst of sanity prevailed in the General Assembly. Like Hailey's Comet, it happens every 70+ years.
