Please remember the reason for this Holiday, which is the courage and sacrifice of those who paid the ultimate price in service of our country.

"All gave some and some gave all
And some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Some gave all"

Billy Ray Cyrus - Some Gave All Lyrics | MetroLyrics

Most holidays were created by companies trying to cash in on sentiment, but this one matters.

Remember and offer thanks to those who sacrificed.

Saw this and found it funny. Punctuation is your friend[emoji3]. I appreciate their effort though.

But seriously very thankful to live in our country with the freedoms we have. Freedom is not free. I've been to a country ruled by a dictatorship & where the citizens have no rights. It makes me appreciative of our country and the price that has been paid for our freedom.

Two Tributes in Verse

Macaulay's "Horatius at the Bridge."

Then out spake brave Horatius,
The Captain of the gate:
“To every man upon this earth
Death cometh soon or late.
And how can man die better
Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his gods,

“And for the tender mother
Who dandled him to rest,
And for the wife who nurses
His baby at her breast,
And for the holy maidens
Who feed the eternal flame,—

And an inscription on a soldiers' memorial:

Let The Stranger
Who May In Future Times
Read this Inscription,
Recognize That These Were Men
Whom Power Could Not Corrupt,
Whom Death Could Not Terrify,
Whom Defeat Could Not Dishonor.
And Let Their Virtue Plead
For Just Judgment
Of the Cause in Which They Perished;
Let the Citizen
Of Another Generation
Remember
That the State Taught Them
How to Live and How to Die,
And That From Her Broken Fortunes
She Has Preserved for Her Children
The Priceless Treasures of Their Memories;
Teaching All Who May Claim
The Same Birthright,
That Truth, Courage, And Patriotism
Endureth Forever.

Re: Two Tributes in Verse

Happy Memorial Day!

I hope you have a great day, but please spend some time thinking about the 625,000 Americans killed in the Civil War, the 116,000 killed in WWI, the 405,000 killed in WWII, the 36,000 killed in the Korean War, the 58,000 killed in the Vietnam War, the 2,300 killed in the Afghanistan War, the 4,500 killed in the Iraq war, and all the Americans killed in other wars...

Few things in life stir my emotions like the thoughts of brave men and women who sacrificed all for you and me. This is a time when words just simply aren't enough.....may God Bless them all.

I thank all the brave men and women serving in our military today. We can never forget those who died. I'd like to especially thank my 58,000+ brothers and sisters that died in Vietnam. RIP.

Sorry but that sign, while well intentioned, is better suited for Veteran's Day. There is a difference.

In addition to those who lost lives, let's include those wounded in body and mind.

Anyone who was in combat. Heck, anyone who served.
It's a great idea to honor all who you mention, everyday. But, as alluded to above, this day was designated to specifically remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice of their lives. I served, but this day is not set aside to for me.

Again, all those you mention are deserving, but Memorial Day is just something very, very special.

No offense meant.

None taken. You make a very good point.
There is Veterans Day for the living.

Hope my fellow TideFans had a fabulous Memorial Day weekend.

I happened upon a broadcast of the National Memorial Day Concert, and found it powerfully impactful and moving.

Hit me right where I live...

God Bless America!
