Look at the bright side - at least he didn't say he admired Darth Vader. (And btw - do any of you REALLY think as this was Chris Mathews that this was nothing more than a gotcha question? Johnson says he admires person X - Mathews then comes up with the most reprehensible thing that leader has ever done and asks if Johnson's admiration is an endorsement of whatever that worst thing is and so it goes).

Don't mistake me as defending Johnson here, but given what journalism has sunk to nowadays - would what I'm saying surprise anyone?

I have no problem saying the Libertarian Party nominee screwed up in this or any other interview. But if there's anything more obnoxious than cheerleaders for Donald "bomb-the-sh—out-of-ISIS" Trump mocking Johnson for foreign-policy ignorance, it's supporters and enablers of Hillary Clinton rolling their eyes theatrically at a presidential candidate who was against the Iraq and Libyan wars in real time, who wants to pardon rather than imprison Edward Snowden, and who comports himself with occasionally awkward humility rather than with the polished and delusional omniscience that we've unfortunately come to demand in our presidential candidates.

The incident perfectly illustrated the shortcomings of a campaign in which independent thought — and sometimes thought of any kind at all — has been largely absent.
[/FONT][FONT=&quot][/FONT][FONT=&quot]Also missing from Monday night’s event was Gary Johnson, the Libertarian candidate, who should have been on stage with Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Unlike the Republican and the Democrat, Johnson has stuck to issues and ideas rather than character attacks and personal sniping. He would have added considerable depth and a badly needed alternative voice to the proceedings. Johnson’s egregious gaffe about Aleppo in early September was embarrassing, and deservedly so. But it was nothing compared to the colossal ignorance, incoherence and boorishness Donald Trump displayed Monday night. At times the Republican — we use that word loosely — seemed to be doing an imitation of Monty Python’s “Argument Clinic” skit, shouting “Not!” and “Wrong!” as if that constituted a substantive rebuttal rather than a childish outburst.[/FONT]

Nah, best format for either/both is a town hall type setting. No use in having #'s 3 and 4 debate without the big dogs there. Only way to be the big dog is to beat the big dog. Can't do that if the big dogs aren't there. Why do you think the bipartisan commision on presidential debates set the bar so high?
