I've said before, Obamacare was brilliant politics. Terrible policy but brilliant politics.
If Republicans make this work, that will involve infusions of cash, which will in effect be yet another program to hoover up money from Republicans constituencies and give it to Democrat constituencies. Tax your enemies to pay your supporters.
If Republicans don't inject mountains of cash and the program fails, Republicans get the blame and Democrats will propose a single payer system, which is what they wanted all along. Once that happens, every election cycle will turn on who's willing to spend more to "make the NHS work," which will be framing the debates in very socialistic terms which will overwhelmingly favor Democrats for decades ot come.
The Democrats looked at Republicans and said, "Heads we win, tails you lose."

It looks like the California state senate is following the Pelosi method in pushing a single-payer style system for all residents of the state:

http://www.ocregister.com/2017/06/0...yer-health-plan-amounts-to-political-stunt-3/

Whatever the merits of single-payer health care in the abstract, what the Senate voted on was a proposal lacking critical details without which a responsible vote in favor is impossible. The prospect of an unvetted bill with hundreds of billions of dollars in proposed annual costs becomes even less sensible in light of the state’s inability to balance the budget it already has.

It's interesting to note that in this week's British election on June 8 the National Health Service, which has been around for nearly 70 years, is the top issue on the minds' of voters. I'm intrigued that this is still the case after how long the service has been around and in light of those in America who think socialized healthcare is some kind of panacea. It appears to be an entitlement with an every increasing appetite, which is somewhat scary.

The shadow health secretary, Jon Ashworth, believes that public concern is greater than in 2015 and that a tipping point has been reached over A&E delays and longer waits for routine operations.

On some benchmarks NHS England has seen its worst ever winter as hospitals have struggled to keep up with rising patient demand.

What will become clear in the weeks ahead is whether patient frustration is being raised consistently with canvassers on the doorsteps.

Labour will allege the Conservative government has failed to get to grips with an NHS crisis.

Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour left will push their claim that the government has allowed private providers to take an increasing share of the NHS cake and there is a covert agenda to undermine the service.

The proportion of the NHS budget in England allocated to private organisations has increased. But whether this cuts any ice beyond the core Labour vote is far from certain.

NHS spending will no doubt feature strongly in the campaign debates.

Labour has yet to say how much more money it will pledge to health.

The Liberal Democrats have hinted strongly they will call for higher NHS budgets with a ring-fenced health and social care tax.

You mean you've heard that from CEOs of insurance companies? Me too.

Insurance CEO: I’m raising Obamacare premiums because of Trump
Interesting, premiums would move toward market reality since the CSR payments are used to artificially lower out-of-pocket costs.

CSRs appear to be available only for those with an income between 138% and 250% of the FPL and only on silver plans. Seemingly, the premium increases for this group would be offset by premium subsidies, and the potential positive impact on the market is reduced utilization due to the higher out-of-pocket costs. This lower utilization might in turn help to lower healthcare costs.
