When it comes to recruiting, Nick Saban has everybody playing for second place.

See that stubborn red line below that refuses to squiggle like all the other squiggly lines? That’s Alabama.

In each of the last six recruiting cycles, Alabama has signed the top-ranked class, according to the 247Sports Composite team rankings. This chart visualizes the class ranking for every team that has signed a Top 5 recruiting class in any of the last six years — 13 teams in all. None among the baker’s dozen has fallen out of the Top 15 in any of these five years. But nobody has been able to keep the Crimson Tide from the top, either.

auburn can never use the excuses of having no talent to compete with Alabama or the SEC as a whole. talent has never been their problem, but long suspected by most fans developing talent might be. their evaluation of talent is iffy at best.
FYI, this was posted on another Bama board, wins and losses over the last 4 years:

Bama overall record of 50-6 with an SEC record of 28-4 over a 4 year span. Next best is Georgia who went 40-13 and 23-9 during that span. auburn on the other hand is in the bottom half of the SEC going 30-22 with an SEC record of 13-19. Only (14)Kentucky,(13)Arkansas,(12) Vandy, and (11)Tennessee have worse overall and SEC records during that span than auburn.

Brandon Marcello took a look at some of their recent recruiting classes. Unreal how bad they've missed on some guys.

Teams in BCS CG and CFP CG in this same five years:

2001: Alabama beats LSU

2012: Alabama beats Notre Dame

2013: FSU beats Auburn

2014: Ohio St beats Alabama

2015: Alabama beats Clemson

This seems pretty accurate to me :) Bold are teams who finished in the top 5 recruiting from chart.

They are terrible when it comes to evaluating and developing talent. When you hire kodi burns with one or two years experience to coach WR you're not serious about winning.

Nice observation. Taking it back 3 more years to 2008, there was only 1 National Champion that was NOT Alabama and did not beat Alabama to get there - 2013 FSU.

Might as well go back to 2006 since Florida and LSU each beat Bama in 2006 and 2007.

This graphic can't be accurate. You are going to tell me the top 13 teams in 2011 have been the top 13 teams EVERY YEAR since? No way.

If not for the infamous kick 6, FSU would have had to played Bama for the national championship that year. So they had to beat the team that beat Bama to get there. I think Bama would have beaten FSU if they had played them that season personally. FSU got lucky! ;)
