ALEA: Dept. of Finance Chief Information Officer terminated after security concerns

Officials with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency say the Chief Information Officer with the Department of Finance has been terminated and another state official has been placed on administrative leave following security concerns.

ALEA says the discovery of security concerns within the Department of Finance Information Services' Division were discovered by state agents who found the network systems may not be fully compliant with federal policy.

James Nolin, the Chief Information Officer for the State Department of Finance, has been terminated, according to documents released by ALEA.

The documents also say Rex, McDowell, the Assistant Director of Finance, has been placed on administrative leave with the leave expected to continue during the course of the administrative investigation.
FBI Supervisory Special Agent Douglas H. Astralaga says the FBI does not have personnel in Montgomery conducting an audit/field compliance request and they have not personally removed any computers.

This statement from the FBI comes after State Rep. John Merrill said Thursday that multiple state officials were put on leave following the start of an investigation by the FBI.

Despite the statement by the FBI Friday, ALEA maintains that an investigation has begun.
