Georgia’s gameweek schedule in Kirby Smart’s first season as head coach is shaping up to look similar to the program where he coached the last nine seasons.
Smart’s weekly news conference will be held on Mondays instead of Tuesdays as previously under Mark Richt. Smart will meet with the media at noon. Select players also will meet with the media that day at lunchtime.
“Mondays just fits better for the way Coach Smart likes to set up the team's weekly schedule during the regular season,” longtime Georgia sports communications director Claude Felton said.
Alabama coach Nick Saban also holds his weekly news conference on Mondays. Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Missouri and Tennessee also went on Mondays last season.
The Monday press conference probably will be the first time Smart will answer questions from reporters since he meets with them after a Saturday game. Richt had held a Sunday evening teleconference, but that is likely to be scrapped. Only South Carolina among SEC teams also still did a Sunday call and the Gamecocks also have a coaching change with Will Muschamp, another former Saban assistant, taking over.
Georgia also has shifted the radio call-in show, Bulldog Hotline, from Monday to Thursday during the football season for Smart. It will start at 7:06 p.m., according to a tweet that Athens sports radio station 960 The Ref sent out last week announcing the new day and time.
Saban’s radio call-in show is also held on Thursdays.
Even the time that Smart appears on the Wednesday SEC teleconference will be different than it was for Richt. Smart is slated to go at 11:10 a.m ET after LSU’s Les Miles. Richt went at 1 p.m. as the second-to-last coach on the call.
