I do not have a problem with a lottery per se.
At its core, a lottery takes money from a lot of people (disproportionately poor people), and give half that money to a very, very rich person (the lottery winner is, by definition, very, very rich).
The saving grace is that it does not take that money by force. It is voluntarily given, and the state gets a cut, which makes it less likely to come after me with a tax increase.
It is still a dumb idea, from the perspective of the lottery ticket purchaser's perspective, but whatever...

Seems to me then that Bentley, et al, would have done their homework to see whether it had worked in other states prior to trying it here. You'd think they're that that smart anyway, but you'd be wrong.

I would personally prefer some combination of sales and property taxes for revenue, combined with good discipline over spending. It is what is is, however. At least I won't pay it.

every spring in t-town i would go out and jump off of cliffs with my friends. it was a lot of fun.
we will occasionally clean the change out the car console and buy a power-ball ticket. this usually only happens when the jackpot is very high, which decreases our chances even more.
Your odds of winning are the same no matter what the jackpot is.

yep, i got distracted thinking about more people playing it when the jackpot is high.
when it comes down to it, i'm willing to pay $2 for a very remote chance of winning the take-home part of a $300 mil jackpot.

That attitude is why Montgomery is a cesspool. Stop voting for guys because he throws a rifle over his shoulder and talks about being a Christian in their commercials. Start voting in people who are actually activist with a platform. We need to stop resigning ourselves to the same old platitudes that always turn out phony and vote Montgomery into being the capital this state deserves.
