And now it becomes clear why some say Fulmer is overrated as a head coach. All that talent, and he has 1 NC and 2 SEC titles to show for it. Nothing since 1998.

It has been clear the past 2 games that Fulmer and his staff isn't on the same field as CMS and staff when it comes to coaching. As the talent level finally gets closer, it will show up on the scoreboard. Again and again.

IMO, the only reason Tennessee has such a streak on BAMA is the talent. Recruiting at Alabama has been down until the last couple of years for well known reasons while recruiting at Tennessee has been going $trong for years.

It's easy to accomplish that feat when Phatlock oversees the admission policies of the football team. He can get the best players, tell them they don't have to go to class, and tell them they can act a fool because he has the keys to the Knoxville county jail. How much longer will this reign of terror continue? SERENITY NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Reprehensible as he may be, Phat Phil really can coach. Talent is not enough. Look at all those Notre Dame guys who got drafted and look how they routinely suck. Then there's Colorado. They've been a real boom/bust team the past decade, not exactly a dominant program by any stretch. I can't help but notice the national title winners who didn't even make the list (USC, OU, LSU, etc.). You have to have talent, but talent alone isn't enough to make you a consistent winner. We may all hate Fulmer but he's been able to keep winning every year and that takes a good coach. Plenty of programs have shown that you can have all the talent in the world and still be crappy. That hasn't been happening to UT and there is a reason for it.

Coaching

I won't say fulmer can't coach, he is just not a good head coach. When he was the Off. Cor. (I believe) under majors, he did an alright job. He is probably a good position coach too. He doesn't control the whole program correctly (which we know something about), and one of these days it will tumble down around his fat self.

Oh Fulmer can coach. Tubberville can coach. And, they have surrounded themselves with good coaches.

Still, I don't think either staff is much better than the one currently residing in Tuscaloosa. And, I believe both Tennessee and Auburn have benefitted greatly from Alabama's probation and coaching changes. But that is all over. The luck that has been brought up in another thread is about to run out.

I'm going to say this and some won't agree but it's just an opinion. I believe Fulmer was outcoached by Coach Shula in both 2003 and 2004. Now, Tennessee won because they had the depth and talent edge. Did Coach Shula make mistakes in both games? Yes. That's probably the case in every game for every coach. But the gameplan he had was good enough to win with a little more depth or talent. I believe Coach Shula and staff outcoached Tubby and Auburn last year, but it was the same story.

It takes talent and depth. By that list, you can see it. Those programs have routinely competed for championships in the last decade, except for Notre Dame and Colorado. I just don't think Fulmer is a great coach. Cut the $$ off, and even the tables with Alabama, and we'll see.

I would like to see a list of the schools with the most players in jail during the past ten years.

IMO, there are not many poor or great coaches in the game.....just lots of good coaches, like Fulmer, Tubby and Fran. I detest all three, but the record speaks for itself.

You can have all the talent in the world at individual positions, but you have to have the best TEAM to win the SEC and National Championship. Even going back to Bear's days, yes we had some talent, but more than anything, we played as a team. To be honest with you, as long as we can get back to winning regularly and competing for Championships, I could care less whether or not we ever produce a heisman trophy winner, or have more NFL players drafted than any other team.

Anybody got a ranking on what school had the most players arrested in the last decade?

If you find one, add two to UT's total.

LOL, that's freaking hilarious...add to UT, Miami, FSU, Neb(Rapist) Colorado (more sexual abuse)....OSU..Cheaters who won't be punished...All those schools promise "extra benefits" no doubt with probably the exception Ga...not sure about Michigone..

It ain't just the talent, but what you do with it. Curley Hallman sent a bunch of good players to the NFL but couldn't manage one winning season with the same players.

The decade goes '95-'04 (didn't have to take my shoes off for that one ;) ). If you drop off '94, that's one less NC for Nebraska, but you've still got all but one NC represented (USC, who I'd wager is #10-#12 on this list) from the last decade.

Reminds me of a conversation alleged between Dr. Denny and Frank Thomas where Dr. Denny said something like this - I believe football is 90% talent and 10% coaching. I will provide you with the 90% and hold you strictly accountable for the 10%.

In this day of scholarship parity, there's some more premium on coaching, but you still gotta have talent.

The only way the viles have beaten the Tide all but once in the last 9 years is that the team has been short on recruits and short on the talent we are accustomed to. Having said that, one Bama player during this time period has more character than all the viles put together. Now the playing field is getting righted, CMS and his merry men will show who can coach. We darn near beat them last year sorely undermanned and with a horrendous list of injuries -- that's coaching!
