The following is something I wrote while bored and after watching too much cable news. This is my best analogy for something complex. Please forgive any grammatical errors.
A Football Fan’s View Of This Election
On a struggling football team, it is often said that the backup quarterback is the "most popular guy in town". Many people see America struggling and President Obama and Hillary Clinton represent the starting QB. Donald Trump is our backup. Our first string QB has done good things, remember that great Osama Bin Laden game? There have also been some fumbles. The handling of Syria and ISIS has been slippery at best and sloppy at worst. We can't forget the interceptions either with Hillary Clinton's email scandal and the recent DNC hack being the most fresh in memory.
Fans of a QB will often tout the "experience" the starter has and proclaim things are getting better. Detractors will state that consistently losing games is not great experience and that losing by smaller margins is still losing. At this point, it may be suggested that the starting QB is doing the best possible in a bad situation and that there was little talent on the team upon arrival. Could our backup do better?
Our backup QB is an exciting prospect to many. He often says that he can do things that our current QB cannot and make our team great again. What kind of things is not always entirely clear. He promises to make our offensive line better by making it as impenetrable as a wall. Many fans of our team really like this idea, but are unsure of how he will do it.
While our backup QB often does not do well in practice, supporters say he will do better when actually put in the game and say "anybody is better than our current QB". I haven't mentioned that many fans have stopped watching our games altogether, plus, the growing number of people that think all our quarterbacks are terrible and that we're doomed for the foreseeable future.
Well folks, somebody has to start for Team America this November, er, this weekend. Do we stand pat and probably lose, but "lose respectively" for what that's worth? Or do we take a huge chance? Our backup QB, Donald Trump, may guide us to victory. He may also bring upon us our worse loss and injure half the team in the process. Are we desperate enough to take that gamble? Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? Right?!
