Chad Kelly is going to scramble. It's just the way he plays and he's good at it. But when he does, he always likes to use that pump fake everytime to get defenders to leave their feet and he scampers right around them. Bama's defenders must acknowledge this in film study and do not fall for the pump fake when he scrambles. Don't let your feet leave the ground.

Ole Sis hasn't had a consistent running game and they have a depth problem at that position. I don't think some of their young and inexperienced defensive backs will be able to contain our receivers. The fact we can pressure Kelly without having to blitz is crucial, but we must keep him from gaining big yards with his feet. This would be a good time for our running game to kick into gear to help our young QB. Everyone knows Ole Sis is going to after Hurts early and often, but he has also has the ability to hurt them with his feet. The key for us is to give Hurts time to make the needed throws.

A few interesting observations:

1) FSU actually put up 100 more yards of total offense against Ole Miss' stout SEC defense than they did against Charleston Southern. Granted, part of this no doubt is because they trailed badly prior to the half in one game. Plus, FSU surely went into a 'let's play the second stringers' sometime in the second half.

2) FSU drilled the Rebels for 580 yards of offense. But remember this - last year's Alabama team, the one with five turnovers, an unsettled QB situation, and put into one dimensional passing for most of the game....lit up a presumably much better Rebel defense for 503 yards. Plus, Derrick Henry had not yet become Derrick Henry just yet, either, although he did rush for 127 yards. (Btw - remember their blowout loss against TCU a couple of years ago? Ole Miss ran 64 plays in that game, too. And remember the overtime game against Arkansas? Try 66 plays even with the extra time). They also only held the ball for 18 minutes against Arky last November.

3) Ole Miss ran 64 plays against both Wofford and FSU; they ran 65 against Alabama last year. They're incredibly consistent in that they don't hold the ball for very much TOP and run the same number of plays. (Note that I'm only including rushes and passes, not punts or kickoffs on plays). We ran 65 against USC and a whopping 81 plays against WKU.

In short, keep them on the field for long sustained drives, cash in TDs, and don't turn the ball over. What we'd say all the time.

Also remember FSU had nearly 100 yards in penalties in the 1st half, and a Dalvin Cook fumble that was a clear TD had he not switched the ball from hand to hand.
