Americans don’t know crime has plummeted. In fact, they think it’s gone up.

Every now and then you need to step back and realize how much better everything is getting

Since the 1990s, crime rates in the US have plummeted — with the murder and violent crime rates dropping by more than half.

Americans, it turns out, have no idea.

A new Vox/Morning Consult poll measured how nearly 2,000 registered voters perceive crime both in their neighborhoods and in America more broadly.

The poll found that 69 percent of US voters think there is more crime in the US than there was two decades ago, with 43 percent saying there is “much more” crime and 26 percent saying there is “somewhat more” crime.

The reduction in crime MUST BE the from the reduction in the number of guns in the US!

Good thing we don't have more armed citizens. If that were the case, there would be stacks of corpses in the streets.

but then we wouldn't be able to whine about being victims of a tyrannical regime and dastardly statists that are trying to rip america apart at the seams.
And it would defeat the Make America Fear Again campaign.

With the overall population growth it has gone down. Still, the crime ridden neighborhoods haven't gotten any better, inner cities especially. So, I guess par for the course.

in my experience this isn't true either. We have people posting on this very board like 92 living in inner city areas of Atlanta that were certain death zones in the 80's that are filled with families with strollers

Are we crediting the War on Drugs?

When it's rising in big cities, that's why people believe it's higher....the media mostly only reports on our biggest cities....

"Obama's rate for murder didn't move" your reading comprehension skills are pitiful or you are only seeing what you want in 2008 the rate was 5.4 per 100,000 in 2015 it was 4.9

Now, yes, but the crime just got pushed elsewhere so hard numbers look good. They don't tell the full story.

When we say Black Lives Matter, we are broadening the conversation around state violence to include all of the ways in which Black people are intentionally left powerless at the hands of the state. We are talking about the ways in which Black lives are deprived of our basic human rights and dignity.

  • How Black poverty and genocide is state violence.

  • How 2.8 million Black people are locked in cages in this country is state violence.

  • How Black women bearing the burden of a relentless assault on our children and our families is state violence.

  • How Black ..... and trans folks bear a unique burden from a hetero-patriarchal society that disposes of us like garbage and simultaneously fetishizes us and profits off of us, and that is state violence.

  • How 500,000 Black people in the US are undocumented immigrants and relegated to the shadows.

  • How Black girls are used as negotiating chips during times of conflict and war.

  • How Black folks living with disabilities and different abilities bear the burden of state sponsored Darwinian experiments that attempt to squeeze us into boxes of normality defined by white supremacy, and that is state violence.

That .05% represents 1,590,000 people a year so hardly?
15,000 people were murdered in 2015.....

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/27/us/murder-crime-fbi.html

The article states that last year (2015) had approximately the same number of murders as in 2009.....

Is it at all possible for you to leave a post without being a total jerk? When you do things like questioning my comprehension level, etc. -- is there some sort of orgasmic reaction you get by being that way? Argue - have fun stating your case, but why be that guy?

In 2009 (when Obama took office -- it was 5.0) -- in 2015 it is 4.9.....using your chart on your post.....

So, that's about as close to a push as you can get.....

In the last year it went up .5 -- and so far this year, it's trending even higher.
