Through the First Six Games, Alabama's Defensive Efficiency is Ridiculous

For those wondering what defensive efficiency is:

Team efficiencies are based on the point contributions of each unit to the team's scoring margin, on a per-play basis. The values are adjusted for strength of schedule and down-weighted for "garbage time" (based on win probability). The scale goes from 0 to 100; higher numbers are better and the average is roughly 50 for all categories. Efficiencies update daily during the season.

And now we run our own RPO to spread out and stress other defenses. Saban is beating them at their own game. We have the #1 defense with a top 25 offense that is only going to get better. Exciting times to live in.

I often wondered if the turnovers actually benefit Offense more than defense because they ends up on the field longer than the defense.
Depends on what happens with the turnovers. We love the NOTs, but that also puts the defense back on the field. The offense lost two possessions Saturday night with the defensive scores. One reason Arkansas was +14 in TOP and ran 33 more plays than Alabama.

This is why I'm just not that concerned with giving up 30 in that game the other night. Not only did you have what you just posted, but also their last TD was scored against our reserves with Bert leaving his starters out there.

If we don't get the NOTs, the game probably has something like a 38-17 score.

I just looked at the TOP after the turnovers. Two of the turnovers came inside the Arkansas 30 and led to TDs. Combined those two drives lasted 3:28. The third turnover not returned by the defense for a score started the drive where Jalen was hit as he threw the ball. That drive last 37 seconds.

In other words, Alabama's offense scored 14 points off the three drives while only having the ball for 4:05. The points are what we most care about, but the TOP didn't help the defense.

Plus we have the first drive of the second half where Ardarius has the long reception before being stripped at the Arkansas 3; it last 17 seconds.

OMG we've become a Big 12 team!

I'll gladly swap 14 points for 2 possessions ;)

And, our defense is giving up 490 yards a game; a number that would have made Bama fans cringe in years past. Yet, we are still ranked a respectable 24th in this category. Oh, how the game has changed.

Talk about peer pressure. If you haven't scored you are feeling left out on this defense.
