Re: Any word on Kiffin's interview with UH? (Houston will sign Applewhite)

Lane probably didn't get the Houston HC job because the school wanted contract terms that wouldn't allow him to move onto greener pastures anytime soon, which is of course his plan if he's successful.

If you're right, which I don't think you are, you are completely discrediting Coach Saban's decisions for the last three years!!
Come on! The Kiffin stories didn't start last week!
I am becoming amazed.
Time to stop and go to bed.
Look Saban didn't get to this level teaching Sunday school, okay. He has to balance winning without overtly risking his or the school's reputation. But no matter how good a coach, player, or lead salesman is there is a limit you can't let someone cross period. It's reached critical mass with Kiffin. Not only does he know Kiffin needs to go he has his wife, fellow coaches, and administrators imploring him to deal with situation.

Sip, I admire your tenacity for sticking to your more distant impressions and plausible naiveté . You are way overselling Kiffin's value as a coach. His best coaching job was his first year with Blake Sims. He wanted Bateman as his starter last year. Coker got sick or missed curfew or something the week of Ole Miss so he got his wish and Bateman underperformed. The rift began there and it has been diminishing returns ever since. This playbook we are running now with Jalen is virtually the same as we had with Blake who was not called on to run as much because he could see the field better than Jalen and had Amari. Do you really think that Kiffin would call 90 carries in 2 games for Henry unless instructed to do so? That was an old McCarron-McIlliwain playbook. The dude has had other world talent to coach. The real work to keep us where we are came from retooling the defense. He can go to LSU or the house as far as I am concerned, we will be more than fine.

The mighty Florida Atlantic Owls are now supposedly in the running to hire Lane Kiffin, according to ESPN whose source is presumably fat boy slug agent Jimmy Sexton. At least Boca Raton is a nice spot.

From an ESPN article about whether Kiffin was ever close to becoming Houston's coach, booster Tillman Fertitta said: "Never. He was no closer than anybody else. Those [stories about him being close] are all put out by his agents, because that's the way they play the game."

Hard for me to believe that Kiffin hasn't matured after three years under Saban. His ego must be taking a serious beating. No Power 5 conference school wants him; astonishing waste of talent with personal negatives that are self inflicted.

The fact that Tillman has a real say in who coaches Houston goes to show you how stupid they are, and in denial of their "stepping stone" role in college football. I also have a very hard to believe that CLK and Sexton would let Ferrita have 100% control over the contract.

Re: Any word on Kiffin's interview with UH? (Houston will sign Applewhite)

I don't care how good of a coach you are and how many games we've won as a result of you being a good/great assistant or head coach. There comes a time when if your personal actions are detrimental to the health of the staff/team/organization as a whole then you must go. I am not a win at all costs guy. I hope our administration does not have a win at all cost mindset. CLK (or any other coach) is not above the organization. I don't care if he's "The QB whisperer" or whatever.
Speaking of LK directly, I am appreciative of his time here as an OC. I hope he gets his act together in his personal life and can curb his self destructive behavior and be successful in life in helping to raise his children and in his professional life as a coach. If he is doing all the things I is being indicated that he's doing then he needs to find some place else for employment. I love Alabama too much to be so short sighted as to look the other way just for another win or two.

Wow, you mean that Kiffypoo is exactly who we thought he was, a d-bag who is arrogant and self centered? My only surprise is that so many people seem surprised. He's been an embarrassment to me every time I see him with that script A on his pullover. I found it shocking how many people who never had a positive thing to say about the man suddenly embraced him when Saban decided to hire him. Of course, I also believe what happens between consenting adults is no one's business but their own, and finding football coaches who aren't a bit arrogant would be practically impossible. I am, however, still the naive lover of college athletics who loves my university and wants these young men and women to get their degrees and represent my university with class and pride, and who thinks that there aren't any slimeball scumbags behind the scenes making sure that some dirty deals go on just to get some high school kid to "attend" school at a certain location. In other words, if winning is doesn't the right way, winning means nothing to me.

Unfortunately, Kiffins issues don't have to do with coaching, by and large. He is not going rogue on the recruiting trail, etc. But I agree he is perceived as being on the edge of embarrassing my alma mater. Sexton will find him a spot because he has to.

Houston is going to founder, or maybe worse if they don't get their boosters out of the athletic department.

To be fair though, the Fertitta family has a lot of power over the U.S. especially Texas to the West Coast. His cousins were the Fertitta's that own the Station Casinos and did own the UFC (who just sold for 4.2 billion). Tilman owns Landry's Restaurant and the Golden Nugget in Vegas as well.

Wow...did you all have a discussion late or what? (I went to bed...buried one of my best friends yesterday.)

Just a word of caution -- I lived my life as a minister in the public eye. People look for something to talk about...whether it is true or not does not matter. LK may have the worst character in the world...he may be a saint...I don't know. I do know that innuendo and rumor can really damage a person's ability to function in the world. Time will tell...

Any word on Kiffin's interview with UH? (Houston will sign Applewhite)

In all honesty, I think CLK might be a GREAT HC at some point, possibly now. What he was up against at USC was incredible, yet he still was fielding decent teams before he was fired. IMO< if USC had given him another year or three he would have really turned thing s around there.

No CLK haters just a realist - I don't consider him a genius OC, but he's a good coach and can do well, imo.

I'd also be surprised if he were wearing crimson next season, due to all the stuff I've heard from within - but again, I was surprised he received a year's extension after last season, so what do I know???
I don't disagree that he has great potential as a HC. Also given the sanctions & an inept AD he did a good job at USC. While I have no doubt in his knowledge of Xs & Os it just seems to me he lacks the leadership skills to lead a program. People don't seem to follow him. The Houston AD said he wasn't a safe hire. Maybe going to a program like FAU will help him even more. If he can build them into a regular bowl team then maybe he'll gain some trust with a power 5 program or a mid level program like Houston. He's learning the harsh lessons of consequences for actions. I don't blame ADs for not wanting to invest millions of dollars to lead their programs right now. If I were a parent of a recruit I wouldn't want my son playing for him as a HC with the things Earle and others have posted about him. The potential is there no doubt. But potential doesn't always turn into reality for a myriad of reasons. For Kiffin his "indiscretions" are costing him big time.

*Again I'm suggesting him as a HC not an OC. I really like his offense & he's done great things with our offense. And as you do I don't think there's any way he's in Ttown next year.

Anyone else think that kiffin may end up being a huge distraction/disruption at LSU if he flames out in his HC search?

Is CEO really going to be able to control him as much as CNS?

Hate to hear that Padreruf. I buried one of my best friends a week before our h.s. graduation and he died exactly a week after my Uncle that I was VERY CLOSE too. Safe to say I did not have any fun my last month of my Senior year. Not to mention I had to have 3 of my wisdom teeth cut out in surgery (only had 3 develop) at the first of the month as well. It just piled up. But I can understand some of your pain and don't wish it on anyone. Only thing worse than losing my friend was losing my baby when my ex-wife was pregnant.

As for Kiffin Padreruf, I wished the rumors on Kiffin were just people nit-picking. Lots of bad rumors on him that can be found by simply googling Lane Kiffin rumors and even Joey Freshwater. He might have grown up some since he's been here, but I would venture to say no big time program will be hiring him soon as their HC.

I understand that, but it would be like Vince McMahon deciding one of the NC schools coaching future because he is a celebrity billionaire there. My point is any serious football team would never let a non football person decide the program's future. He may be right that lane isn't a good fit, but picking Applewhite over Miles, Rielly, and others on the basis of the team loving him and fear of Texas recruiting hurdles is just plain ludicrous. Miles coached at LSU and Okst both have serious dealings with Texas HS coaches. Heck even Charlie Strong is available, and it's not beyond believability that he could succeed with a decently recruited team, look at his time in Louisville.

Re: Any word on Kiffin's interview with UH? (Houston will sign Applewhite)

People really are coming out of the woodwork to take their shots at Kiffin. Look, the guy won a championship at Alabama. He recruited well. There's no way, as of right now, to characterize his tenure at Alabama as anything other than a success. Thus far, the only things to come out are that he's apparently a man-whore. Ok, so was one of (alright, more than one) of most popular presidents in history. There's worse things to be.

I am ready for this to be over myself, I hope he gets a HC job. But I don't see the need, or productivity in trying to fan the flames until then. There's still the playoff coming up.

That's my point -- the "rumors" are over 1 year old and have no credence to them. Do we really think CNS would have kept LK if they are true? No way...A lot of people project their own feelings onto public figures...

I honestly think he fits in that culture.

Distraction? Yes! As I previously posted it'll not only end in a train wreck but that train will crash into a refinery.

I was one of those that didn't like the hire when it happened but I adjusted to it. His ability as OC has definitely been an advantage to the program. I'd like to keep him around in that aspect but the peripheral garbage and clutter, at some point, becomes too much to wade through. And the time has obviously come.

Padre, I'm not spreading rumors. I know what I'm talking about. And, as 230 says above, anyone with access to a computer can satisfy themselves easily as to the accuracy. It's not just loose idle talk or it would have been removed here long ago...
