An apology is plenty. No need for people to "step down" from their jobs. This country (as great as it is) has been over "politically corrected" and it has gotten out of hand. We're so afraid of "offending" somebody that we'll put our own lives in jeopardy to rest assure that we don't "offend" somebody.

I just wonder what she saw in that statement to be offended about. I think some folks just walk about looking for a reason to be offended and if no one will oblige them, they'll make something up.
Give me a break, it wasn't even his player. This is just another example of another extremist nut trying to cause problems for all men everywhere (just another Martha Burke). Probably wasn't the smartest comments, but Joe Pa is at or pushing 80. He also didn't condone it, he just said he understood how and why it happened. And for anyone who has been to college they know that this is a thing that happens all the time. Women throw themselves at these athletes, I am sure it is hard for an 18-22 year old kid to control themselves. If there is nayone that should be held responsible for any part of this, it is the player and Bowden.
all criminals are presumed innocent and I believe that, however, speaking as the father of two teenage daughters, I found what Joepa said was appalling. and speaking as an American citizen I cannot stand criminals being treated lightly because they entertain us.
the statement Joe pa made that it was a shame for the athlete, because he's a heck of a foootball player, it might end his career, and its too bad doesn't sit well with me. what about the victim. its too bad she was allegedly raped by that heckuva football player! if it was my little girl, I would fly to state college and punch Joe pa in the mouth!!( after the rapist took his last breathe of course!) !!!!!
that being said, I dislike NOW and all other gender/racial groups and think they should stay out of this, it should be handled by the university!!!

I in know way think that Nicholson should not be held accountable. If it was my daughter then I might end up in jail right next to him for what I would do. I was saying that Paterno was not making excuses, he thought it was a shame and could see how it would occur. In no way is it ever right to do anyhting even remotely close to what is being accused. But I think this arguement is taking the focus off of where it should be, which is on the accused. If I had to guess everyone is looking at the wrong coach, FSU didn't get the nickname "Free Shoes University" for nothing. I would be very surprised if anything really comes of this and I would be willing to bet my house that the player will not see an hour of jail time. He is a starter for Bobby Bowden lets not forget. Joe Paterno through out his 50+ years at PSU has been nothing but classy, everyone knows he meant nothing wrong by what he said, he around 80 and is not able to choose his words as easily as in previous years. Just look at his post game interview after the Orange Bowl, the only thing you could understand was "It is past my bedtime."

If the kid did something wrong let the officials sort it out. As long as he has to live with his mistakes whatever the degree of mistake may be, and he gets no special treatment because he is an athlete I don't have a problem with it. If it goes the other way and the woman was up to something, same rules apply.
At best I think this deserves an apology "if I was misunderstood" kind of thing.
Unless of course you want to get your name in the papers.

Many people automatically dismiss comments from organizations like this, but the fact is she is standing up for the rights of an alleged victim. A crime like that should NOT be taken lightly and somebody needs to stand up and say so. Should Paterno be fired? No. Should he acknowledge they were irresponsible comments and apologize? Yes.
This woman works for NOW. That speaks volumes. Not every woman that claims she was assaulted, was assaulted. These athletes attract all kinds of girls. Who knows?

Paterno was approaching it from a coach's perspective--that is, he's going to support the player until the allegations are proven. I didn't see anything in there to suggest that Paterno didn't appreciate the gravity of the charges.
I can see how NOW wants to make sure that the victim is not forgotten--and that is an important concern--but to call for Paterno's resignation is going a bit far.

I also believe I spoke out in support of the victim and against Joe and the player, my dislike for gender/ racial oranizations has more to do with the personal/financial agenda of their leaders than their ideology!!TurningTide said:

sorry, but you can't be insensitive on a case of that magnitude(rape is serious) when you work for a public university shaping young minds!!! just my opinion
