Assaults an officer and is "demoted" to second string. How long before he actually gets in the game???

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State linebacker Geno Hayes has been demoted to the second-team after being arrested for an altercation with police outside a bar.

Hayes and fullback Joe Surratt, who is sitting out the season with an injury, were suspended Friday after being arrested earlier in the day. The Seminoles were idle Saturday and coach Bobby Bowden reinstated Hayes on Tuesday.

Florida State plays No. 22 Alabama in Jacksonville on Saturday and Hayes will not start.

Bowden also ordered Hayes to get behavioral counseling and perform community service besides other unspecified internal discipline.

Hayes issued an apology through Florida State to the school, fans, teammates, coaches and his family.

"I have always taken pride in representing myself and this university in a positive manner and unfortunately, I did not live up to those standards on this occasion," he said. "I realize I cannot make another mistake of this or any other nature."

No disciplinary action has been taken against Joe Surratt, a senior.

Hayes is facing misdemeanor charges of assault on an officer, resisting arrest without violence and disorderly conduct.

I think the FSU recruiting slogan should be this...

Hit a cop! You'll only miss the first play!

Uhh... We have a starting OL who butted a peace officer. The facts might not be really that different, except the incident is a little further in the past. There are a lot of facts this could cover that aren't all that heinous. Now, playing felons and persons awaiting trial on felonies (Nutt), I have a little trouble with that...

Maybe that's why he hasn't been as dominant this decade...his best players were suspended!
its not suprising, there are some falcons fans who cant wait till michael vick gets done serving his time so he can go play ball again (Which may or may not happen) which just goes to show that some people don't care how terrible a person is they will still cheer for him and love him as long as he can win them games, its really sad.

Vick may not get to go anywhere near a football field until he's too old to play, unless it's in a prison somewhere. Just heard today that the State of VA is a fix'n to indict him as well.

If someone's already posted this, please accept my humble apologies...

I believe you are wrong.that was the other Britt brother!I think you need to rethink that comment. Also, this year it was a DL that plays very little.

Every team has kids that do stupid things, but its the way this one was treated. If the allegations are true, and not like Simeon's, it is like a three year old picked the punishment. You know he'll be out here after Grant busts a 30 yarder.

"Demoted to 2nd string?" That should be common sense.
