I'm tired of yakking about Hoover & Oxford's eligibility and coaching problems, so let's shift gears.

With a few exceptions, the AHSAA brackets are complete. Let's all take a look and pick out a first-round game or two from each class that should be good to watch.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Here are a few that I think could be pretty good games:

1A:

Sulligent vs. Gaylesville

2A:

Highland Home vs. Excel
Pickens County vs. Houston Academy

3A:

Geneva vs. Gordo

4A:

Cleburne County vs. W S Neal
Elmore County vs. Escambia County

5A:

McAdory vs. UMS Wright
J O Johnson vs. Walker

6A:

McGill-Toolen vs. Enterprise
Daphne vs. Stanhope Elmore
Florence vs. Hoover

They brackets need to fixed in my opinion. Too many top teams could be playing each other in the second round.
Here's a link to a different site that shows the brackets in a more user-friendly format:

As you can see, if everything goes according to form, you will have a 1 vs 2 seed playing against each other in every second-round game. In the third round, it would be all #1 seeds playing.

The real key to the early rounds is how the regions are paired with each other. A particular region's #1 & #2 seeds may not be as strong as the other region's #3 & #4 seeds, which can lead to upsets.

The prime example is Hoover, which is a #4 seed, yet is ranked as the #1 team in 6A. If they make it to the finals, they will have (barring upsets) knocked off Florence, Hueytown, Vestavia, and either Tuscaloosa County or Gadsden -- a tough row to hoe for any team.

The playoffs usually don't get very interesting until the 3rd round. Some matchups that could happen in later rounds I'd like to see:

1A: Sweet Water v. Maplesville - This could be the best game in all 6 classifications if it happens in the 4th round.

2A: Lineville v. Fyffe (rd. 2)

3A: Pike Co. v Calera (semis)

4A: Deshler v. North Jackson (Semis)

5A: Briarwood v. Benjamin Russell rematch (semis)

6A: McGill-Toolen v. Prattville (semis)

Another good 6A game, especially for the 2nd round, would be Opelika v. Daphne. This is normally a qtr. or semi-final round match-up.

2A: Lineville v. Fyffe (rd. 2)
Could be Fyffe's best chance to put Lineville out. Lineville has been a thorn in the side of Dekalb County's 2A teams several times over the years almost in the same way Colbert County has in 3A.

Lineville
11/24/2006 Fyffe...32-21 3rd Round Playoffs
11/14/2003 Fyffe...35-7 2nd Round Playoffs
11/15/2002 Fyffe...21-7 2nd Round Playoffs
