Re: Tide Fans NSD 2008 Alabama Signing Class - LOI Fax Received Thread

According to Rivals #1 WR's, DE's, and ATH's, not in the top 25 in TE's and kickers which I think by the time it is all said in done in 5 yrs those would be changed. The amazing thing was at almost every position we were in the top 5. I do have a feeling though that our DT's wont end up as good as everyone thinks today. Here's hoping I'm wrong on DT's.

Now, that's what I'm talking about!

There are 32 reasons why CNS earns the big bucks! While history dictates that not all 32 will shine for the Crimson Tide, they are all a part of bringing the Tide back to where they rightfully belong. These young men have a wonderful opportunity for a great education and four or five years never to forget. Some will indeed go on to the next level.

SABAN TALKS ABOUT TIDE’S FOOTBALL SIGNEES
University of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban met with the media Wednesday afternoon to talk about the Crimson Tide’s 2008 football signing class. Here is a transcript of Saban’s signing day press conference.

Opening Statement:
“A little over a year ago, we stood up here and made a commitment to this institution to make the University of Alabama in a position to be successful as a football program in the future. Certainly, this recruiting class was a positive step in that direction. It shows a very strong commitment to this institution by the players that we were able to recruit. I think it shows a very strong commitment to the program and the people we have in it that are here to help the players be successful. I also think it’s a very strong commitment to the current players on our team that these guys are going to be quality teammates to them and that’s important to us. Our players did a fantastic job of helping us recruit this class and certainly we want these young me that come in here to want to be great people, they want a good education and be great students and they want to be quality football players and reach their full potential and be as good as they can be at everything that they do, which is certainly what we want our current players to do. I think this class will be a quality group of teammates for the players we have on our team.

“A lot goes in to putting together a successful recruiting class. Our administration here has been fantastic and supporting our recruiting efforts, in terms of the contributions that they make, weekly speaking, speaking at junior day, and we really appreciate their efforts and help. (UA President) Dr. (Robert E.) Witt is always very helpful and supportive in all of our recruiting efforts. Our own athletic administration has been helpful. (Director of Athletics) Mal Moore is a significant contributor to each and every recruit and their visits and how he represents us and supports what we are trying to do. The faculty and staff here; the academic visits they make are very positive. Our academic support program is helpful. We have countless numbers of people who volunteer their time and energy in a very positive way to help us attract the quality young men we were able to attract in this particular recruiting class.
Crimson Tide Adds 32 Football Signees
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – University of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban announced today that 30 student-athletes have signed national letters of intent to play football with the Crimson Tide, joining two players who enrolled at the Capstone in January and will compete in spring practice later this semester.

The 32 players come from nine states – Alabama (19), Florida (2), Georgia (2), Louisiana (1), Michigan (1), Mississippi (2), Tennessee (3), Texas (1) and West Virginia (1).

As listed by position, the Crimson Tide add to their roster seven defensive linemen, five defensive backs, five receivers, four running backs, three linebackers, three offensive linemen, one quarterback, one kicker, one tight end/wide receiver, one tight end/defensive end and one player designated an overall athlete – though several of the players played multiple positions in high school and could move to other positions once they arrive on campus.

Two players – wide receiver Chris Jackson and kicker Corey Smith – already are attending the University. Both enrolled in January, began taking classes for the spring 2008 semester and will be able to participate in Alabama’s spring football practices. The other 30 players signed national letters of intent today.

We won't know the full eligibility of some of the signees until they retake their ACT, finish up their senior year and after their HS graduations. Even then we will have to wait for some of them to clear the NCAA Clearinghouse. For the most part this class is pretty solid academically. We should get the full picture prior to the start of fall practices. I expect 25 of them to report with no problems.

Since most of the 2008 class is reporting in this week, I thought it would be good time to look back and reflect on this outstanding class of talented athletes. How they can call Marcel Dareus a sleeper is beyond me.

Athlon - Recruiting Class No. 1: Alabama
With so much balance, it becomes difficult to really narrow down areas of focus for this class. The defensive front seven and offensive playmakers might have been the two main areas of concern for Saban. Not only has he addressed those issues with flying colors but also any other small area of weakness as well.

With the implementation of the 3-4 defense, Saban has placed a premium on smaller, faster, more aggressive linebackers and bigger, stronger defensive lineman. Four defensive ends, four tackles and potentially five linebackers head to the Capstone in ’08.

Alabama wins recruiting national title
The Tide came rolling in on National Signing Day.

After an impressive flurry of commitments in the past 48 hours, and thanks to a solid recruiting foundation that was laid in the spring and summer, Alabama has been crowned by Rivals.com as the recruiting national champions for the class of 2008.

The Crimson Tide finished with an amazing run in Nick Saban's second recruiting class in Tuscaloosa. Saban and his staff landed three five-star players and 18 four-star recruits, giving them enough of a push to edge Notre Dame and SEC rival Florida.

SEC Signing Day dream team
Take a look at the teams represented on the 2008 Signing Day Dream Team in the SEC and it becomes very clear which teams are sitting atop the final team rankings.

The nation's No. 1 ranked team, Alabama, has eight representatives on the SEC Dream Team. Florida, sitting at No. 3 in the team rankings has four representatives on the team while Georgia is sitting right behind Alabama with six representatives.

Well it is almost time for fall practice to begin on Aug. 1st. I just wanted to make one last post with some very good links about the Alabama 2008 Signing Class. Most of the signees made it into school. Those that didn't are discussed in other threads. Here is one last reflection on the tremendous success of this year's signing class and on to the next one. This link has both Alabama and Auburn articles from back in February.
