Rest In Peace Billy Powell

Skynyrd keyborad player Billy Powell died today of a heart attack here in Jax. One of the last original 3 band members left is with the others now.

They are taken away way to soon. I think you could consider Artimus Pyle one of the originals also though. He was with all the rest of the originals for a good portion of there time.

Re: Rest In Peace Billy Powell

My (current) favorite Skynyrd song (Sweet Home or Freebird notwithstanding):
Mr. Banker

A close second:
The ballad of Curtis Lowe

Anybody else?

With the subject matter of many of their songs (bar fights, pistols being drawn, going to hunt down somebody who did you wrong), I always got the feeling that one or more of them would end up with a few bullets in them, or wrapping their car around a tree.

You have to think that "Gimme Three Steps" had at least a semi-autobiographical tinge to it.

RVZ was actually shot once as a teen, by Donnie. Donnie was 10 at the time. RVZ took the blame saying he accidentally shot himself in the leg instead of letting his brother get in trouble. this story was told by Gene Odom. He was one or RVZ's best friends, and was on the plane that ended RVZ's life. He is one of the survivors.
