Re: Best Guitarist ever not named Hendrix
I'll give you some of my personal favorites:
Mark Knopfler-best finger-picker on the planet, bar none.
Nuno Bettencourt-Guy's been cursed with being in some pretty terrible bands (Extreme) but is supposedly working on Perry Farrel's next project. Extremely pyrotechnic.
Joe Satriani-Duh. Love his work on the Chickenfoot album.

Re: Best Guitarist ever not named Hendrix
I am a HUGE Warren Haynes fan. Some people may be "faster" or play "harder" but to me, his playing tells stories.
I think it was BB King that once said you play blues licks like you speak in sentences. Warren has a tremendous knack for that. I only like music I can feel, and the emotions run strong when he picks up a 6 string.

Warren Haynes is amazing. And pairing him with Derek Trucks in the ABB is heaven to the ears. For a added bonus I have a copy of one of the shows from the Beacon this past run, Eric Clapton is the special guest.

Stevie Ray Vaughn - Saw him and Joe Satriani both on MTV unplugged years ago. SRV played a 12 string Yamaha. He was insane.
Chet Atkins - don't laugh, Mark Knopfler thinks that he is great.

My personal favorite is Steve Howe.
But for the best, I'd grudgingly give the nod to SRV.

Yngwie Malmsteen is always good, as well as Vivian Campbell.
Alvin Lee also.

Re: Best Guitarist ever not named Hendrix
I'll admit that Hendrix wasn't the greatest ever. As far as the hardest to replicate...Stevie Ray Vaughan and Mark Knophler were unreal.

Guys, I moved this thread to The Strip because there are probably thousands of similar threads of this nature there.
