Anybody familiar with them. I just caught them at Hot August Blues here in Md. and at least 3 players were from Alabama. The Lead guitar was from Muscle Shoals, another guitarist from Florence and drummer from Tuscumbia. Really enjoyed their music.

Awesome band. Jason was formerly with The Drive-By Truckers. Anything specific you are wanting to know about them? He plays shows around here (Muscle Shoals area) all the time when he isnt off touring.

Love love love this band. Jason is from Green Hill, Alabama - a graduate of Rogers High School. He was a few years ahead of me in elementary school. His work is just fantastic.
This was an all day outside concert and I went mainly to see Jo Bonamassa and the Derek Trucks but was pleasantly surprised by Jason.
What is the derivation of the name 400 unit?

DBT is less with him gone, in my own opinion.
I agree and disagree with your last statement lol. Jason is an amazing song writer and musician, but Shonna has really stepped up and wrote some beautiful songs since he has left.
On a side note be sure to pick up the new DBT album: The Fine Print
It is a collection of unreleased takes from the studio. Most of it comes from the Dirty South sessions. Jason is on most of the songs, and it is the only place to get the song, TVA, that I know of. Also a great cover of Bob Dylan's Like A Rolling Stone on there.

Riverbend mental institute is located in Florence. The 400 unit is a group of patients that get to go out into the community and eat occasionaly if they show good behavior. Jason saw them out walking one day and he said that they just seemed kind of confused and out of place, much like a band does when they are touring.
I'm not much a DBT fan, but I am a huge Jason Isbell fan. The songs I did like by DBT Jason wrote.
Although, I enjoy his older stuff more than the stuff on his newest album. The great part about him is you can see him in basically any size city at a very intimate venue. I saw him in February at Workplay (in Birmingham) at the debut of his album. Awesome show.

Thanks. I wonder how many people actually catch it?
BTW, do you remember the band name who opened up for them? I belive they were from Florence area as well. They looked like an old 70's band.
I wasnt there, but I believe Chopteeth was the band that went on before Jason and the 400 Unit. Could be wrong on that though. Anyone go to the afterparty where Jason and Derek traded guitar licks?

Sons of Roswell opened up for Jason at Workplay. They've also played Bottletree and the Nick, I believe.
Haven't had Snakehandler yet. Not sure if I'd like it...I'm still not big on IPAs. I am looking forward to getting a hold of that new high gravity brew. And I love the Coffee Oatmeal Stout. Speaking of which, it might be time for a beer thread.
