So I was trimming back the Bridal Wreath that run parallel with my my drive, I had just pulled my sunglasses down so they would hang arounf my neck as they were getting dirty and sweaty. All of a sudden I see this little black dot, ( inside the bush) heading straight for me. Before I can even blink BAM! I feel like I have been shot with a .22! I got begged between my eye lid and eye brow. I came in the house took 50 mg of Benadryl, put some ice on it, along with some "special green medicine which smells suspiciously like Witch Hazel." After things calmed down I went and looked in the bush, there was a nest with about 5 or6 huge red wasps on it. They were quickly terminated with extreme prejudice. I then pulled down the nest and squashed the larva out.

just had it happen to me a couple weeks ago at work. i was pulling off a electric meter and little skinny yellowjackets had built a nest inside the meter box. my misfortune the sun was on the box so they were pretty active. one got in my shirt sleeve under my arm and hit me 3-4 time before i could get him out.
like you after i settled down i wanted blood! i couldn't just spray, the nest was attached to one of the lugs so i had to find a long stick and clear it from there, then they got sprayed good!
hope your eye has no ill affects.

When my youngest daughter was 2 1/2 years old, she got stung twice in the same location you describe, doc. Apparently they had built themselves a nice little nest inside her playhouse in the backyard. She went in and one of 'em got her twice. Her eyelid swole up to the size of a golfball, even with ice. She screamed in my arms until she passed out.
She still remembers that.
So do I.

Red wasps are vicious. I think they are the most aggressive wasp out there but I have these things in my yard and they are about an inch and a half to 2 inches long. They buzz us all the time. Luckily no one has been stung yet but I can imagine it would feel somewhat like a bowie knife being plunged into a person.. See pic below.
I was stung 7 times by yellow jackets 2 weeks ago while cutting my neighbors yard. I ran over their nest opening and they got me good. I used extreme prejudice also. Gasoline and a grill lighter at dusk. I had a volcano of flames erupting out of that hole in the ground.

Thanks man... that picture has totally reignited my complete fear of bees, wasps, hornets, and all other flying, stinging insects (Or as I call... Nature's cruel joke).

I'll be that was horrible for both of you. I know when my daughter cries , even when we are disciplining her , it breaks my heart.

This type of occurrance was common for me and my chest-high privet hedge that I groomed from time to time. It got to be such a nuisance that I finally got a belly full, so to speak, and brought out the back hoe to dig the whole blamed thing up. I chose wisely.

My son getting stung would be 10 x worse for both of us than me getting it.
