XM or Sirius

Share

Trying to decide to re-activate my Sirius subscription or go with XM radio this season. I really like listening to Bill King with Rivals.com. Does he come on XM? Also, are SEC games only on XM this year?

I've done some research but wanted you guys opinion.

Thanks..

Re: XM or Sirius

Sirius and XM have "merged" which means that Sirius bought out XM and fired most of the good XM talent. Bill King and Rivals Radio is XM 143-146, somewhere in there. I have XM and listen to him every morning. I think Rivals is one of the "merged" stations which means it is available with either package. Not sure if it does this with Sirius, but with XM, Rivals goes off the air sometime in the afternoon after the Dan Patrick show.

For overall programming, I think you can buy the Sirius hardware and opt to get the "Best of XM" package, which includes all, or nearly all of the content only available on XM. MOst of the channels/shows I listen to are available on either base package though.

This topic gives me the chance to float two slightly related questions which I have been wondering for some time:

1. Why does XM maintain 2-4 channnels dedicated to each major NCAA conference, and then leave them broadcasting dead air all the time? It would seem to make business sense to me, to at least pick up some syndication rights very cheaply for some local sports radio shows that are specific to schools or areas from that conference, and run them in these slots. And I am not talking about high profile regional shows like Finebaum, which would likely cost a good bit more, but a local 1-2 hour sports talk show out of a local Tuscaloosa, Athens, Gainesville, Starkeville, etc. It would provide a boost in exposure for the local talent, take up some dead air with some programming that could sell adverts, tailored to regional advertisers, etc.

2. Why or how in the corporate world does XM outperform Sirius in listenership, revenue, profitability, etc, and then get bought out by its lesser competitor?? It is the exact opposite of the corporate theory of evolution, where the weak survive and the strong die out. Makes absolutely no sense to me.

You like Bill King? Ugh. . I've tried, but he's so full of himself. And his voice is so fake. Makes me wonder what he looks like when he's trying to talk in that deep of a voice. Sounds like he's got his chin pressed against his throat or something. It's just awful. Plus he elaborates too much. He gets going on a topic and doesn't stop for 10 minutes, long after I've quit caring.
