Yes, I know this isn't directly about football, but it is directly about what get posted on the football forum, so maybe that's close enough?
Anyway, I'm aware that I am a little bit anal about grammar and spelling. However, I see stuff on this and other message boards that is downright atrocious. Basically what I want to know is whether or not people are as ignorant as they sound on message boards?
In addition to misspelling words, there are numerous grammatical errors I see on a daily basis. I won't get into comma splices, as those are at least somewhat difficult.
There's word confusion for example:
to, too, two
there, their, they're
lose, loose
There's verb conjugation issues:
we got beaten (should be beat)
we would have beat them (should be beaten) - I even caught one of these in JessN's article this week
And then there are grammatical errors that I don't even know how to describe, like: I wish we would of done this. "Would of"??? Really???
So, what is it? No one that graduated high school should be making those errors. Is it that people are lazy and/or don't care, or are that many people that ignorant of the proper use of the English language?
Ok, I'll get off my little soapbox now.

there, their, they're
lol, I absolutely can't stand this one. Besides that I don't really think much about it. I know I don't speak with perfect grammar nor do I type that way. As long as it doesn't come out sounding/looking like gibberish it's fine by me.

The purpose of speech is communication. If you understand my point, I have succeeded. Spelling, grammar rules, and all that jazz are designed to facilitate communication. If the fact that I say, "I liked that to" somehow means that you don't understand that I also liked something, then it matters that I used the wrong word. Otherwise, people need to get off of there high horse. In 25 years, today's mistakes will be standard language anyway.

It kind of annoys me when posters say they could care less when saying they couldn't care less is more likely what they mean. Just my 2 cents.
Re: (Somewhat Off-Topic) Do people talk the way they type?
I give people credit for the effort. I have seem plenty of people that simply put no effort into what they are typing. I have a brother that used to do office work for the Air Force. He is relatively intelligent and knowledgeable. He seems to think capitalizing words on a computer is criminal. I've seen him butcher a two sentence Ebay description (which should be make a good impression in my mind). Often it is just a complete lack of effort.
I'm a high school drop out who failed typing. Lack of effort back then. However, I've never intentionally or knowingly made errors when typing. If I am going to take the effort to type, I should at least try to do it correctly.
My nieces make intentional errors (their spelling is atrocious), but they routinely type words like "yew" and such. They even sometimes verbally say acronyms like "idk". In those cases they are not even shortening anything, Those types of things annoy me more than unintentional errors.
On the subject of correctness... I think this might be moved.

I like that, that's funny.
Hijacking my own thread here, but have you checked out the poster from despair.com? They're just like the pic you posted, and mimic the inspirational posters bosses like to hang in their offices for some odd reason, as if it helps boost morale.
Anyway, I used to do some support work at a place a few years ago, and their boss had put those posters all over the place. I showed that site to one of the office managers there, and they went through and ordered every poster from despair.com that had the same, or very similar, picture as one of the inspirational posters and replaced them with the despair posters. It was hilarious, and it was like 6 months before the boss noticed. He thought it was funny, too, so much so that he left them up.
