2006 SPRING PREVIEW:
WHICH FRESHMEN WILL PLAY?

by Jess Nicholas
August 8, 2006

Here’s a look at the incoming freshmen, transfer signees and grayshirts on the 2006 Alabama football team, and a quick assessment of which will and won’t play this upcoming season:

Will definitely play
1. Nikita Stover, WR | 6-1 | 195 | 4.5 | 10
Stover comes to Alabama as the top player that was available in the 2004 signing class. A two-year layover in junior college, the result of academic troubles in high school, left Stover a good bit rusty, and the rust showed clearly in the spring – to the point that some services re-rated this player once thought to be an instant star. Whether that comes to pass is up for debate but what isn't is whether Stover will play or not. He's already used his redshirt year in junior college and will play this season for Alabama as a redshirt sophomore. Stover finished the spring as a top backup and has the chance to claim a starting position if D.J. Hall's status isn't cleared up quickly. Stover has a thick build and runs well, but needs to concentrate more on catching the football and be more consistent with his routes.
